Jeff, got the photo thing down.  How do I post a vidio like from my phone.  I tried to email to myself and download it to my pc  then upload it to a post.  It seems to not like the format.  also thanks for the gifts for the Christmas contest.  Do I need to do anything else to get my jam?  I. e. do you need a street adress?  Thanks

I will try again tommorrow on lunch.

Your source of knowledge on grits is way off involving the person you quoted. :)

This is for Jeff or anyone who can advise me.  Occasionally, I will screen shot a picture that has been texted to me and try to add it to my gallery.  The gallery informs me that this type of file cannot be uploaded (extensions).  Is there a way that I can post these pictures?

Today, a guy we were going to saw up a large oak log for sent me a picture of his log.  I advised him that it was going to be a major expenditure of money and effort for what he was likely to get out of the log but that I would post some pictures and ask some of the folks on the  FF who have been down this path for their suggestions based on the measurements and pictures.

Thanks,
Kyle

You should save the photo in the text to your photos on the phone. Then you can do anything you want, including uploading to the ff.

Edit:  save the photo directly from the text. No need to screen shot it

What phone? Just tried with my Samsung and it saved as a .jpg in my picture gallery, and uploaded fine.

Thanks, fellows.  I think it went through.

I think some phones render screenshots as png. We dont allow png due to huge file sizes.

This is stupid. I have to basically agree to give you my pics. I don't remember it being like this years ago on this forum.
Oh well. Plenty of other forestry , logging and arborist forums on the web .

You have always had to load pics to your gallery before posting them.  Nothing has changed but your memory.  If you think that the picture posting rules are stupid, then you can create your own Forum and make your own rules, go somewhere else where you don't think the rules are stupid, or get over it and load pics that you want to post into your Forestry Forum gallery.

Sometimes I get a little irritated with the picture policy/upload procedure, but it really is a good policy. Just about everywhere else on the web, you find posts missing pics cause the hosting service changed it's policy, had server issues, or simply went out of business. If the pics disappear here, so will everything else, and it won't matter.

ENTS

Ques: on photo size.  Coming off an i-phone I down load to my p.c.  I then resize either to .25 mp (thumbnail), 2mp (emails & msg.), 4 (best for viewing), and custom ????   What should I resize to?

Thanks and have a great day.

Jeff

The forum server will do final resize on anything that is under the max upload size which is around 20mb.

I seem to be having an issue trying to upload a photo for my avatar/ icon.  I tried it directly & through my gallery, but it ends up rotated 90 degrees.  I looked around for a solution, but no joy.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks from an admitted Luddite....

WDH

Go to the pic in your gallery and just below the picture is a rotate function.
