I had my tree care class out for a walk last week in Nelsonville ohio. A student as we leave a topped silver maple. Hey whats this plant growing here at the edge of the sidewalk. He reached down and grabed it and i started  to smile and laugh to my self. Didnt think anything of it but got to thinking of it today . It was really a cotton plant small and just a few puffs of cotton but none the less.
How far north does it get planted as a crop?

We  have it here in southern Kansas.
It is relatively new (6 or 7 years?)
Several new gins but high corn prices due to the interest in ethanol are cutting into cotton acres.
