I see so much beautiful work online regarding timber framing, but what about shoddy work? Timber frame fails?  Anyone see a timber completely snapped?  Any pictures?  I'd love to see some bad examples for a change, and if anyone can post some please do so.

Tried to get creative with a king post on a very small frame, cut out bottom center of 6x king post to notch over 2x bottom cord. Blew out back portion of 6x driving the peg due to grain orientation I guess and a slight draw bore. Should have clamped it all before driving peg and probably reorient the timber for more advantageous grain. No pictures but might remember to take one some time. This was an attempt at aesthetics, something I should always avoid :uhoh: At least was low stakes

From Hewett, an early description.  In the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, pre Norman, 978AD "In this year all the chief "witans" of the Anglo-Saxon race fell at Calne from an upper floor that collapsed, except the holy archbishop Dunstan, who alone was stayed upon a beam; and some there were sorely maimed, and some did not escape with life"

Seriously though, most of what we know we've learned from the mistakes of others.  It would be nice to see some actual evidence of these mistakes.  I know I've seen countless comments on youtube where people point out flaws, but never see the end results years later.

So does anyone have any pictures or stories of timber framing one bad?
