Looks good Terry. Just reminds me of how many projects I've got going and how much of my time the company eats up. :(

Lucky to own a WM LT40HDD35, blessed to have a wife that encouraged me to buy it.     Now that\'s true love!

Just out of curosity, have any of you tried true oil for a finish?

True oil is what is used on gunstocks. I have just started using it for my guitar necks and I am thrilled with it. It goes on with a lint free rag and can be buffed into a really glossy shine. It is also quite durable so it makes me think that it would be a perfect finish for bowls.

A little bottle of it goes a LONG way and costs less than $8 per bottle.

Olen, it is a tung oil finish, eight coats (hand rubbed) and sanded to 400 grit.

GOI, I have not used true oil. How many coats do you use on your necks before you buff it out?

The number of coats varies, but generally 8 to 10 are enough. The number of coats is dependent on the grain of the wood. Maple takes less than walnut or cherry.

OK I want to know how you mail a rattlesnake out to someone down south. I'm guessing woodbowl will know to keep an eye on his mailbox for some time. :D

Patty

After several bribes,  ;D  I convinced Woodbowl to send me a dough bowl.   He offered to send it only after I promised him Norm would do the sanding and I would photograph Norm doing the work.  :D   I thought it was a great bargain, and we struck a deal.

Here is the bowl now in its "before sanding" mode. It is just awesome. Thanks Olen, I sure do appreciate it.  ;)

Yes Steve, I do believe Olen said it was sweetgum. It is so cool. I cannot figure out how he makes them.
