Im getting older, older than my age 44 and cord wood is killing me....... Broken back and bad legs w/ arthritis makes it tough to cut and split a cord of wood each day..... I have been selling firewood since I was 12 years old so this is not a new venture.  With a processor I will be able to continue.
last years ice storm raised hell with my wood lot and now I have firewood logs everywhere...
I have had enough w/ the chain saw and old clunker log splitter !!! I could easily drag up 200 cord withing the next month to process. My son who is a little person and  in a wheel chair can run the machine and do something to help out, he's always looking to do more/new things........
I also run my sawmill and grow 3-5 acres of vegetables farmstand and farmers market. Diversification is the only way to survive and we are doing it !!!!!

Good luck with your machine. I bought a model 2020 back in 1990. Everyone thought I was nuts paying 35g for a splitter. There 3 times that now for the same machine. Well here I am 19 years later and still running the same machine. There a good machine. I've had good luck and few repairs. My machine has an Iszusu diesel that runs and runs and runs always starts no matter how cold even down to well below 0. Even with a processor it's still a lot of work. I found the best way to handle the wood is to make some kind of a pit or bin with a floor and walls you can push against to use a loader to load. I use a skidsteer with forks to load the live deck then switch to the bucket to load the split wood on my dump truck. I work full time at my sawmill and do wood mornings before work and deliver nights after work. If you want to know anything or if I can help PM me and will talk.

did you go for the straight EZ or opt for the live deck?  the 1610 looks like a very sweet machine for the bucks.

Spoke to the trucker a half hour ago he was pulling out of danbury ct and putting up for the night at the rest stop on the Mass pike will talk to him at 7am and should see him shortly there after..... good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who wait longer......

Didn't need the new loading dock I just built.... trailer was a drop deck with very little clearance, driver was affraid he wouldn't get down into my driveway..... We luck out he had some awaesome ramps. I was able to back my tractor right onto the trailer and pull it off...... Now onto set up and a trial run !!!

Ok yes I had to do it.... Machine is setup. Have some tweeking to do.... Owners manual leaves much to be desired, mostly out of date !!  No info on the conveyor system at all..... guess good old common sense will prevail.... but it will have to wait until Saturday......... Leaving in the AM for CapeCod, Annual State Farm Bureau meeting....  2 days off and an overnight @ a hotel with the Mrs.

I have cleared packed and graded a log yard and site for the processor. Hopefully the yard will stay frozen today...I will be spreading wood chips on top this morning to hopefully keep the frost in..
Will be working in the woodlot to get a stockpile of logs this week. I have wood allover on the ground *( 103 acres )* thanks to the ice storm... Have to establish a few new haul roads and skid paths, that should get me about 40 cords to start with.....

Update, machine is working well. had a few start up glitches but appears everything is where its belongs and running correctly......
Today, I put 1 cord thru the machine in 2 hrs 20 minutes no help just me, my tractor and the processor. I'm happy with that because i'm not killing my self..... nice steady pace no rushing w/everything cleaned up....... 8)
Big snow coming tonight so it will be a few day before i'm able to run the processor again....

glad you are happy and it is working well.  any idea why 1 cord took over 2 hrs,  advertised rate is 1 to 1.5 per hr?
Title: Re: new purchase
Post by: bull on December 20, 2009, 06:05:56 PM
I'm 44 years old.......  have to get the rythm of joy sticks, also most of the wood was 4-6 inch, I was also adjusting feed rate and tension on conveyor *( tweeking things)* !!!
1 cord in 2 hrs is better than one cord in 9 hours with the old back, saw, and spliter.... I also put it all in the cellar before the snow storm thought of getting here.....
