:D. Not quite wood related, but so many of us live near Albany I figured this would make your morning. Im 100% sure we will be escorted by a heavily armed swat RHIB to the dock in Albany shortly. Terminal said there is literally snipers on the riverbanks waiting for the protesters to start something. About 20 units down river waiting, supposed to be a blockade on the river at somepoint by organ donors in kayaks. I'm on the green and white boat if you see it on the news.  :D

All the suspense and bs from the guy upstairs, and not 1 idiot. I feel cheated. Be another good excuse why the price of fuel will go up.

I guess I don't know what you are talking about.

Sounds like someone got a phone call or something. Protesters in kayaks and a BIG boat.  ::)  Not a good mix.  ;D  I know you can't run them over.

Why were organ donors protesting in kayaks? Hahah must be pretty extreme to have snipers in the bushes though

There was all these big protest's yesterday in Albany. Sorry I didn't explain enough. People at the capital, down here at the port. The liberal-green peace style stuff. Anyway it's all because of the brakken crude being pumped out of Albany, it's slowed down but still busy. Every boat headed north yesterday was in panick mode, a line of kayaker's blocking the river to traffic is kind of a bad / really bad thing. We can't run them over, and everything it's kind of nuts out here with "security" after 9-11.
Anyway the captain and I where all excited, the words "sniper's and swat", I was going to watch a good show this morning, and didn't know how many of you close to albany had seen the protests yesterday.
I try to avoid posting about my "other job". Kayaker's and sail boats are known as organ donors to us. I was off, when the barge I worked on yrs ago ran over a fishing boat in the fog killing a couple people. Couple people just died the other day outside nyc playing chicken with a tug.

You know, I am all for taking care of the earth (stewardship), and I do think we need to do things to slow down on how we waste resources, but the hypocrisy of some of these buffoons is too much. How did they get to the protest? I bet they burned some Bakken derived fuel to get there. I remember hearing an interview with a lady on public radio several years back, she just had to drive up to the Occupy Wall Street in NYC from somewhere in the midwest to be the Occupy Librarian. Her reason- "we have got to get the word out a out climate change" ??? If it's so important, why didn't you stay home and not burn the fuel? These clowns seem to think all these changes they are calling for will only affect other people.

Situational awareness applies to every trade; especially logging.

The kayactivists tried that BS on the Willamette River in Portland, OR a couple years ago; trying to stop an oil exploration ship from going to Alaska.

Some of the activist that hung from a bridge and blocked the channel with kayaks, were purportedly-fined $5,000.00 each.

The epitome of hypocrisy; kayactivists protesting in kayaks.....made (in part) with oil.

Not much different than the people who burn log trucks to "save" the environment.

It is probably tied in with the bunch blocking the tracks to the refineries at Anacortes WA, the police moved them off.
We do what we can to preserve the planet, we recycle and try to minimize waste, but that needs to be balanced with the need to live here. There are no alternate forms of energy that will replace petroleum in the foreseeable future not to mention all the byproducts we use in our daily lives.

Off subject but this story reminds me of the do gooders who came up with low water usage toilets.  The only problem is you have to flush them several times for the deposit to leave the bowl cause it ain't leaving on the first or the second flush.  ::)

Politics are deep and shady in Albany, or NY period. I wouldn't doubt all these "protests" are funded by the oil companies themselves. False flag type stuff. It's no secret "they" have applied to install a new pipeline directly to a big NJ oil refinery, rail car to Albany, pump it down, and have a new 2-3 clean product line back up, basically cutting the costs of transportation by 90%. Anyone who lives around here knows that area isnt exactly "the good part of town", no the richer white people in the suburbs are sick of hearing the trains all the time. Same thing with this new power cable in the Hudson river, cheap power from Canada directly bypassing 3-4 idled powerplants. There is so much corruption with the Tappan zee bridge right now why do you think our Governor is hyping the 15.00 thing ???  I literally delivered the stone for the bridge for 2yrs, you dont ask questions. NYS wants the river to be used for recreational traffic, maybe the occasional load of turbines from GE so the "green people" feel good about themselves.
Our customers at home are cops, fireman, lawyers, contractors, 90% out of NYC, and we observe local politics. There is a bunch of people in Albany right now counting the days till the hammer falls, the latest guy to be sent to prison isn't going alone. ;)  anyway I was hoping for a great story this morning, got let down.

The last time I passed on the George Washington Bridge with my Dually they charged me a 30 dollar toll.  The crawl lasted for hours.  The next sign was something about Bloomberg welcoming me to his City I guess because he was in charge at the time.  Lucky for him he wasn't within earshot of me.  They charge 18 wheelers 100 each truck to pass that bridge.  My vow was to never pass anywhere near there again and it wasn't about the money.  I go around on the 84 now.  Nicer scenery and people too.

I quit driving down 5-6 months ago. There "perks" associated with pushing an oil barge around didn't cover the added travel costs.
I don't post on the other boards, really only read this one so don't get to irritated at me making conversation.  :D
This 15$ an hr thing is a longtime coming, it has nothing to do with which political party you belong to. Just like the fear of "making America great again". No this is going to happen, and if you don't like it they want you to leave. This jump in pay will raise the lower income workers just over the threshold for public assistance, rent subsidies, welfare. There's 58K + in shelter's in NYC right now, and all they want to talk about is moving the hall of fame from Cooperstown to NYC. Literally put these people on a bus and move them down to a warmer state near you.  :D  Anyway, I like snow so moving isn't an option.  ;)

They'll really be disappointed with Florida wages.  :D
I fueled up in New York a couple days ago on my way thru.  It was at an older station.  By coincidence, it was at a station that I used last year.  Very nice people.
