Log-Master Photo Electric Setwork ???

I am looking for a Log-Master Mill owner that has or has had the Photo Electric Setworks on their mill. How well it work? Does it use a seperate photo electric through beam emitter + receiver for each log scale it has? How big are the holes that the light signal has to pass thru?

I am looking into building one and puting it on a older Cook's AC-36. It would be alot simpler to build than a unit that uses a PLC. I work with Automation but am just starting to learn about ladder logic used in PLC programing. I could always upgrade to a PLC for hyd. valve control later.
