That looks, uh, interesting! Not to mention, relatively expensive for that short part. I just know that on light trucks, they're bad enough for replacement, but I don't know how they compare.

Yeah it was around 1400 for the axle. I also had to have a hydraulic pump rebuild on the chipper and rebuild the water pump on the skidder it wasn't a very profitable week lol

@nativewolf   I guess yrs ago my father had some issues with this salesman and some tracks, sort of leery dealing with him, then the machine was supposed to be delivered a week prior, no call, no show, didn't answer the phone, then Tuesday morning he's all gung ho for the paperwork, not normally how we do stuff. Either way his loss.

Yep, good sales guys learn to move on to good organizations.  Long term that's a crap organization.
You made the right call.

Good on ya Barge. It won't be long and that kid may be asking you for a summer job. :D
Is this the cut up near the store, to the northwest of it?

OK, maybe I'm the woodcutter now.
I work with wood, There is a rumor I might be a woodworker.

I'm at a slower pace than you full timers. In the last three days I cut down two red maples and moved five logs down to the barnyard ready to be sawed. I'll go back for the firewood in the tops later. The first tree gave me two logs. It needed to be cut because it's in the way of a nice ash I want to cut later.

The next tree was better than the first. This tree is in an area of the woods that is normally too wet to get the tractor into but because it's been so dry (until yesterday) I was able to get in there. I took out three logs yesterday before the rains came. There are two more logs to be had when and if I can get back in there.

Cutter......Nice set of forks.  Looks just a tad bit like a set I built.  Ever thought of a hydraulic cylinder for a toplink?  It works very well for me.  I just use a cylinder.  You can get a hydraulic top-link.

Hey Wudman, no, I never thought about a hydraulic cylinder for a top link but I like the idea. That would be very useful. Thanks for the idea and the picture. I like the old Ford. I bet that old tractor has done a lot of work over the years.

Your getting out some nice logs cutter !
I've been doing precommercial TSI and taking the firewood. I'm giving processing on site a try. So far it seems pretty inefficient but it is kinder to spring time trails and it is nice to come out of the woods with a load ready to toss in the shed.

Very nice color in that red maple. Here they would of been wormy.

barbender

That is nice red maple. Up here it rarely makes it to sawlog size, and if it does, it's usually got bad frost cracks in it.

You could save yourself some steps and aggravation if you could set your splitter up to tow it from the other end.  That way you would have the split wood right at the tailgate of the trailer rather than having to carry it back around the splitter.

You are right !!!  I never thought of that. It would help a lot. The small stuff I can throw but like you say most of it takes a couple steps at least plus I stack a row over the tail gate which seems like a long walk. Thank you for the helpful suggestion Haleiwa.

I like the old boy.  It's a Fordson Dexta (1960 model year) with a 3 cylinder Perkins.  I've had it for a little over 20 years and it's done its share in that time.  Pour fuel in it, change the transmission fluid on a yearly basis as it likes to accumulate water, give him a little snort of ether when its cold to fire up......other than that, I haven't had to do much to it but work.

Most transmission water contamination is the result of an old/cracked shifter boot.

I think in this case it is mostly condensation due to short duration usage and it not coming up to temp enough to vaporize the water.  It would build water when it was always kept under a shed and not used in the rain.  I replaced gasket under the shifter plate and that didn't solve the problem.

I had a 1956 Fordson Major diesel for many years and it was a strong running machine. I had exactly the same issue regarding water contamination. The gear shift area I'm sure is a contributor but I stored mine under cover as well and had the same water build up. I'm convinced it was from not getting fully warm for a long enough time. Condensation was the culprit. It got so bad before I caught on the first year I owned it that it would slush up the screen in winter and the three point hitch would not work. Being 90w oil didn't help either. I changed it every second season before winter.

I had a visitor the other day, he heard I was cutting spruce and had to take a ride up, Mr Clem Carron, most of us in this group wont ever come close to the amount of wood this guy cut, he had 2x of the first 820s Crawford built, quite a pile of iron back in the day. He bought some of the iron I've got new, kept his full tree before he went CTL.

@Old Greenhorn  so I think these guys went a little further 😂 guy said he wanted big pine, shows up with a car trailer... whatever money's green, send it. Just over 1.2k ft, 5 sticks, he was more loaded than the picture shows 😂

Went to the GF's yesterday and continued fishing stuff out of the weeds...

 Just keep getting after it,

So this weekend is 2yrs in business, today was busy, tomorrow is going to be nuts. We sat down and did the math, lower your fuel prices just enough and your inside sales more than make up any diff, tomorrow is 1.99 gas, beer sales, i should trade my hardhat in for a turban / yalmuka combo 😂They CLEANED us out of almost 200 bags of ice today, sitting here on the phone making ice till midnight 😂

Put chains on tomorrow, should be fun. 3/4 Trygg tight rings all the way around now, she should climb.

I was beginning to wonder about you, haven't seen a post in a few days and thought maybe somebody caught up with you. ;D Yeah, that guy had a load on, wonder how far he was going? AT least his truck didn't squat like my sissy little thing did. :D
I am glad to see you have the 'weekender business' just like we do here. Gonna open the store doors again soon? Maybe wait until the holiday revelers are settled down first?
It's also good to see the old guys getting around to check out the young bucks. Keep banging at it.
