Back relief or not?

When doing flooring how necessary is the back relief.  I don't know if I have the bits for it and it was kind of an afterthought.  I think the bottom head in the logosol has 4 slots, so I'm assuming I would use the 2 empty slots for the back relief knives.

It was originally done to provide stress relief (casehardening relief).  Today, it does decrease the weight, but that is about all.  Customers may think it is important and flooring without these is no good.  It does provide boiler fuel too.

I usually cut the bck reliefs so the customer aint calling asking which side isnthe back .
Lt40 super desiel , LT 35 hyd , New Holland ls 180 , Case 75xt ,
So many logs so little time.
