Got the steel on and ridge cap. That ridge cap steel is close to 50 years old, but the roof steel is 6 years old. She's dirty, but rain and snow will clean it up by next spring.  ffcheesy ffcheesy ffcheesy  Mighty handy to have a stash of roofing laying around.  :sunny:

It's to the left (this side) of the overhead door. The wood pile is in front of the door though.  ffcheesy

Trying something different now that have a planer.I have two white oak slabs that are live edge on one side and are square cut on the other side. Going to try and join them with a piece of walnut in the center.Got one slab planed and sanded. Now going to work on the walnut and see if I can a good joint.Don't know about gluing different species together but I guess I'll find out.Any ideas would be welcomed url=https://forestryforum.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=355300][/url]

I always check this topic to see what people are working on, hoping to see something that will inspire an idea in me.

Some ladies spend insane amounts of money on fancy earrings. I've been thinking they need an equally expensive earring display stand.

Gotta keep the ladies happy.

I'll see how this works out. Donating one to a charity support auction and another to a craft school just for the feedback.

That has gotta be the first earring tree that I have ever seen.  Finger rings could go over the top peg and whatever else in the base.

As a wood turner, I am always amazed how women will spend $50 on a bowl and then sit it in the foyer with potpourri in it.

As for joining the two woods, a mechanical means can help.  Dowels, biscuits or if only one side is viewed pocket holes.  An important thing to watch for is to clamp them enough to cause glue squeeze out, but no more.  Then weight it so that it lays flat while drying.

If you have one of those gluing jigs that applies pressure evenly across the entire edge that may not be necessary. Spot clamping can sometimes push the wood in different directions which is why woodworkers say you can never have enough clamps!

I didn't take any pictures but I took that routing table I made (and nearly killed myself with version 1 of, if you recall) and decided that it was much too big and was taking up too much space. I took it all apart, proceeded to spend like two hours looking for a set of hole saws I could never find, and made a new much smaller router table. So, instead of the hole for the router bit being in the middle of a 4'x4' sheet of melamine (or whatever that white coated chipboard is) and made it about a foot and a half wide by probably 36" or so. Much less unwieldy, I ended up just cutting a 1 3/8" hole with a forstner bit, which is bigger than most the router bits I have. I didn't try it yet, but it looks like it should work, for the low, low price of hoarding wood. I can actually store it somewhere other than the garage floor now too!

Gspren, so far I've made them right at 7-1/2" tall. The total height can vary quite a bit I think. The space between the holes in the top and the base is 3-1/2". That looks good with most dangle type earrings.

Post a picture when you get one made for your wife! ffsmiley

Got my table top glued up and it seems to have been a success.Ended up using ratchet straps to clamp it together and clamps to hold it down to sawhorses.Still more sanding to do and decide on some legs.Probably let my DIL pick them out as I'm building it for their new back porch.

Tom ,I used a coffee can to mark corners and cut them with a old jigsaw that belonged to my grandfather.I have a walnut 2"x4" down the middle with white oak on both sides.Turned out pretty good but was a lot harder to get all pieces square and straight than I thought it would be.I'll probably limit myself to two pieces from now on.

What is the length and width? Was that 2" WO you used on each side? Gonna be a heavy sucker to move I bet. Looks good.

Howard, I started out with 2" thick material and planed it down to 1 3/4". Whole thing is 28" wide and 66" long and yes it's pretty heavy. White oak may not have been the best choice but it was the only thing I had that was fairly dry. It's a lot harder to sand than red oak or walnut but does look nice when finished.
