Boy am I jealous of you sawmill guys who decide on a project and can just slice up the wood to build it...

Looks great Jeff. Should be a lovely place to hang out.

Jeff, you may; not have plans on paper but they are in your head and I bet you think about it a lot as you proceed.  Gonna be a great spot to sit when finished!

The old screen door that has been screwed to the shed wall the last two years has found new life. I'll take the wood off and replace it with the patina steel like will be below the screen on the 3 outter walls.

We are going with a heavy beamed flat over hanging roof. Steel right on 4x6 rafters on 24" centers. Its only a 9ft internal span.

I'm looking at that with that designas I am not constantly in some precarious position hung out on a ladder. I can do something safer when I am done with this. Like a double gainer with a twist into the pond from the flat roof. ffcool

Jeff You have came a long way with your project. Amazing!!

Jeff

We've cut down 2 more trees to produce 4 12ft logs from which we've sawn 7-5 1/2" 3 3/4" x 12' and one wany 2x6.  Not a live branch in the first 25ft to where I topped them. I got them just in time. Beautiful looking material. Saws nice.

Getting there. I have to climb up and nail down 2 sheets of steel I could not get from inside, add a couple diagnal bracing beams to the big front opening that will use a magnetic connect garage door screen. I've got s bunch of rolls of screen that pete had socked away in the shed, I'm hoping it will work. I also have a huge piece of brass screen Gene gave me that might be neat on the opening facing away from the pond. Tammy is really liking it

My goal was to spend zero money and use what was on hand, but I failed. We bought a set of hinges for the screen door and a box of 3" exterier screws for 2x framing and I am going to buy a roll of flex seal tape to patch the old nail holes in the steel panels,  we will also need to buy the as seen on tv magentic door screen. We should come in at less than $100 not counting sawmill gas.

Quote from: Jeff on September 03, 2024, 09:47:11 AMI am going to buy a roll of flex seal tape to patch the old nail holes in the steel panels,

I had some old steel roofing panels given to me that I used on our chicken coop. To deal w/ the old holes I used tin-snips and cut little covers that I attached with a dollop of roofing tar that comes in the caulk tube (which I was using to seal the gaps in the walls)? Just a little 1-inch or half-inch square, squirt on a dot of goo, place on top of hole, onto the next one... maybe 20 or so holes like that from the old screws? Been 6 years, no leaks yet!

Other than a couple diagnal braces to install when I get some more log screws from home, and the screen, we are basically done, but it's September in da U.P.! We don't need no stinking screen until poor sledding season comes back in May!

Enjoy the slide show eh?
