I have a Bobcat 642B with a Mitsubishi gas engine that the ring gear has a bad spot so the starter won't engage. It looks like a horrible job to get at it. Is it really a tough job or am I just dreading to do it? :-\

i had one of those back in the early 90s, great little machine. the best way is to take your fly wheel to an automotive machine shop and have them swap out the ring gear. it is heated and press fit to the flywheel.......at least most are, i have never messed with a mitsi.

Are you sure it has a replaceable ring gear some were not. There is a place in craigslist in Minneapolis that sells used parts . You could try a new starter bendix first . I was asked to change the flywheel for our local greenhouse but they changed the bendix and it worked  at least for a while . Gearbox
A bunch of chainsaws a BT6870 processer , TC 5 International track skidder and not near enough time
