I have some cedar logs I'd like to turn into columns for my front porch. I'd like to leave the natural red color.

what would be a good sealer / UV inhibitor I could use?
Grey haired riders didn't get that way from pure luck.

I would think Spar varnish would hold up the best but it will darken the cedar a bunch.

Dark red or darken to much of the red out?

Maybe they can give me a small sample, or I could take a small piece of cedar to them.

we have had great luck with Minwax Helmsman teak oil. we use it on all our cedar projects. it has uv blocker in it. it has seemed to hold the red very well for us.
It seems I am a coarse thread bolt in a world of fine threaded nuts!

I read mixed reviews on everything...

Anyone have experience with penofin?

Sikkens makes a great exterior wood finish .
Costly but worth it .

I've seen houses use the logs as is without milling for columns. Just a thought. ;D
Manage 80 acre tree farm in central Missouri and Mesquite timber and about a gozillion saguaros in Arizona.
