Hey all, I have a franklin 405 feller with a Hydro-ax Model 121 head on it. im in need of a spare set of cutting knives. anyone know where to buy them? i would make some out of some plate, but i assume they are tempered steel instead of mild?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Last I knew, official Hydro-ax parts were available thru Cat dealers. I think the parts depot is in Georgia or South Carolina. Not sure exactly but I know Cat cleaned out all of the facilities in Minnesota as the factory was just north of me and it's empty although Cat may still own it.

I have had them made at my neighborhood machine shop. We used Hardox 500 I believe. First try was with T1 I think. That didn't hold up very long. The Hardox did.

Try Maggert Machine 218-276-2331 in Big Falls, Minnesota. Ken might have the pattern on hand and can make you a pair. Real nice guy , he uses the right material too. That's really hard steel in those blades.
