Title: County Forester came for a Visit Today
Post by: g_man on May 11, 2010, 09:11:25 PM
I have owned our wood lot for 11 years. I have never had a forester out here and
have been trying to learn as much as I can through books and woodland association
events and places like this forum.
I wanted to have a forester come out and tell me what
he saw verses what I thought I was seeing.
For some reason I was a little reluctant to have a state guy come out. Dont know
why - just some deep phycological problem.
Anyway, after hemming and hawing about it for a couple years I finally asked him
to come and am very glad I did. He was great. Showed me lots of stuff, answered
a thousand questions, and gave me more confidence that a lot of my thinking was sound, and he offered suggestions on how to make improvements in several areas.
It was a very positive experience.
He was also an expert birder which only made things more interesting for me.

Well done on your use of a professional forester to assist you in developing the management direction for your forest land. Your decisions and management practices should be guided by some scientific forestry that the forester can provide.

Those state boys are just as sharp as any.  Now you need a management plan.
