Haytrader,
Be careful how you aim that camera so you get both trees.  Wouldn't want to miss half of Kansas' forest.  :o :D :D :D :D ;D

I was gonna say " Them corn stalks get on the big side in Kansas to be calling them forests"  :D :D :D

Haytrader

Just wait, I'll show you guys.
There are three creeks close by and the cottonwoods grow pretty big. If I hold the camera just right.......
 ;D
Or.........I'll slip across the line and take a pic of all the "Okie" cedar trees, in fact, I am headed south with a load of hay in a bit, so I will take the camera and try to get a shot. Will have to get it on the way back as it will be still dark when I go by the first time.

All right Haytrader! 8) 8)

Now who's going to hold the camera so we see a shot of you and your lovely wife snuggling on the front porch. ;D

Nice pic of your mill cecil. :)

Haytrader

Well, I got some pics of the Oklahoma cedars, from the tool box on my truck. They are not good pics cause of the sun, but you can see there are a lot of cedars. I read some where how many acres are lost per year to cedar tree invasion, just in Oklahoma. I will try to remember to look that up.

The ranchers pay custom tree cutters @ $50/hour to cut them but the biguns are in the bottom of the canyons. I have 50 and 100 ft. cables to pull them out with. That is about as close as you can get with a tractor.

Norm, Can you tell I am ignoring you?   ;)

Larry

Haytrader,
Now that you have the picture thing figured out hope to see some of that ERC on your mill.  Always had a fascination with cedar.  We have a lot or it in N Missouri but it is all a lighter pink color and not the dark red that comes out of the Ozarks and Washita.

Do the cutters use one of those clipper machines to clear with or is it manual labor with a chainsaw?

Larry,

They use a couple methods, one is a shear and one is a hydraulic saw with a blade similar to the ones on the swinger sawmills. Here is a link to a business that shears and has some good pics of it.

I found the Oklahoma Agriculture site saying the amount of acres lost to cedars each year. It is 782 acres.

By the way rbarshaw is short for Robert Barshaw.
My Second Mill Is Shopbuilt 64HP,37" wheels, still a work in progress.

Haytrader  Built my dogs today like the ones you have with one modification. I took a 7 1/4 in plywood blade that was dull , cut it in half and welded on top of half circle for teeth.I wonder if I could patent it?  thanks   Cecil

Hey cluck,
I hope you noticed the dogs were on an eccentric.
Your idea sounds like a good one, and it didn't take NASA to think of it.

Slick trick. If I had used my head, I would have put baldy's on. Blade will always "center" itself.  ::) ::)
