Later this week Milton will probably affect at least two FF members; Raider Bill and Caveman.

They are both probably in full preparedness mode.

I'm in Orlando and the predictions do not look good. Winds of 100 mph are predicted from Tampa down the I-4 corridor all the way to Daytona Beach. News just upgraded Milton to category 2 predicted to cross the peninsula. They expect this one to be comparable to Charlie and it devastated east Orlando. Flooding will probably be a major issue (especially along the St. Johns's River) because they have built on almost all the land here that is not a retention pond, including old lake beds that were drained. It's been wet lately and central Florida is pretty saturated already.

Tampa Bay area is forecast for 10-12+ tidal surge. Many houses along the coast will go underwater. Helene caused a lot of flooding from Tampa north, this one will probably be worse.

Caveman is gonna be near the eye (he's about halfway between Orlando and Tampa)if it goes according to forecast sometime Thursday mid morning. I'll probably be close to it also around noon Thursday,  I'm about 10 miles northwest of downtown Orlando. I have generators ready and all fuel tanks full. The response from elec companies has gotten better about getting electric back on after storms, but this one is going to overwhelm the crews. If we are only out for 3-4 days I'll feel lucky.

Magicman

Thank You Troy for pinpointing your location and for the additional storm information.  I sent best wishes to you and all others during this dangerous time.

I'll try to post during the storm until internet goes down. This is a bummer, I was planning to be in Georgia deer hunting this week. My deer season got postponed...............

Raider Bill

I'm in mid Pinellas County about 1.5 miles east of Indian Rocks Beach. Tampa Bay, ground zero according to what they are saying. It's got to go over me in order to get to Brother Caveman. I'm going to do my best to slow it down for him.

IRB was devastated by Helene's surge. Nothing survived untouched. Our streets are piled with debris from Helene.
They closed the dump to debris trucks about a week ago. Politics.
Gov DeSantis ordered the Troopers to break down the gates and keep them open yesterday. He don't mess around.

I'm on one of the highest points in the county at 45ft ASL. Surge shouldn't affect me but wind will.

I have a "safe room" Solid concrete walls with it's own roof. No windows. My house is built around it.

Providing my house roof stays on and the huge oak tree in my front yard doesn't fall on the house, I "should" be ok..

I am resigned to the fact I am going to lose some rentals. They are not insurable.

There is no gas to be had anywhere. I just found another 10 gallons of storage but no place to fill them.

They are not kidding this time, forced mandatory evac from the barrier islands this time around. Cops are going door to door making sure those that need to be are gone. All mobile homes must go as does low lying areas.

My gens ready, I have propane, Being a bit of a Prepper I have beans, bandages and bullets on hand.

Wild Bill lives 2 miles east of me. We are as ready as we can be.

Latest reports has this as a 3-4 upon landfall.

In between getting things ready, I have been processing Helene claims as fast as we can to get as many moved up the pipeline as possible so people can get paid before we go dark.

I'll check in from time to time until I can't.

Wow Raider, you really have a mess to contend with. Its gonna get nasty for sure, you are gonna take it on the chin if predictions hold. Stay safe, fuel available in Orlando area if you wanna head over this way.

Been watching things on the various live weather sites, and it looks pretty serious. The lightning radars were picking up 180 strikes per minute over the Gulf, and that's mostly in the rain bands being pushed ahead of the actual storm. That's going to dump torrential rain and random winds on the coast, before the hurricane proper arrives. Hopefully everyone is either out of the danger zone, or has a bunker like Bill, above the water level.

The latest update is for Cat 4, eye coming ashore just south of Tampa Bay around Bradenton, then exiting the state somewhere around Ft. Pierce. The eye has shifted slightly south but sustained winds at landfall have increased slightly. Evacuation orders all along the west and east coast have been issued.

Road traffic yesterday was bad. Looks like most people are staying off the roads today. Landfall in Tampa area predicted somewhere after midnite. Working gas stations along west coast are iffy, few stations around Orlando are running out but being refilled. Emergency crews are staged statewide and will start repairs as soon as winds die down, probably sometime Thursday afternoon. Midnight thru mid afternoon tomorrow will be bad.

Wind is picking up and the rain is getting heavier.

I've been watching the storm progress off and on all day and thinking of you guys in the path. Keep your selves and families safe, don't take any chances and get to the safest place you can. Also thinking of all the first responders SAR teams, DMAT teams, Swiftwater and the like that are standing by to render aid. At least one of them is a member here and he is on my mind. Hoping to see you all on the other side of this 'thing'.

We talked with my wife's cousin from Akron OH who had been cleaning up their summer home in Bradenton for a week. Helene did not get in the house but up to the bottom of it and flooded the garage and Lanai. They had just bought new washer and dryer but not unpacked them yet from ones lost to Helene. They had to replace thermostat cable that had been chewed by something. Said they had about another week work. Now they evacced to daughters condo/vacation home in Gulf Shores and looks like Milton is hitting dead center where they just left. I don't know what the storm surge was in Helene but I'm betting they get lots worse from this one. At least they are safe.

I have an Aunt and cousin in Lake City. Not sure how this will affect them. She will be 99 in 3 days. They did not get damage from Helene but had to leave to go to a hotel because of no power.

I hope all our member and their families are safe. Its too late now to do anything but hunker down and pray if they have not already left.

It has been raining hare on already saturated ground here for the past 8-10 hours.  We will probably 15-20" of rain from today and after midnight.  The winds here are 50 mph or so now and will increase over the next hour or so.  Raider Bill is west of me about 40 miles.

I suspect there will be an abundance of trees uprooted tonight.  We'll likely lose power before too much longer.

I moved my big grill and a 1000 gallon propane tank into the yard to tie down the grandchildren's playhouse.  I wanted to put on a helmet and ride the storm out in there and make a video, but at night these things are scary.
I took this picture five hours ago from the road in front of my house.  The cows are probably in water up to their knees by now (chicken sleeping in the willow trees).

It's going to be squishy around here for a little while.  Our dry season should begin as soon as this system leaves.  I'll probably have mosquito fish swimming in my yard tomorrow.  The frogs are loving this storm.  I can hear them singing.

There were several tornados south and east of us ahead of this storm.

Stay safe, doesn't sound fun at all going through this.

I've lost a 20 ft pencil cactus, a plumoria and a good sized oak limb so far that I know of.
Figured for sure my mango would be down by now.
Had quite a light show when a bright blur light ran down some transmission lines behind the house for a couple blocks.
Still have power.

That is called a "power arc followup".  Once electricity makes it's way through the air, it creates it's own path of least resistance.  It can maintain that arc until it looses power or maybe the wind blows the conductors too far apart, etc.  It can be quite a light show.

You can sorta compare this to what lightening does, except on a much larger scale.

All good in the hood. Lost a couple trees, had some limbs land on my new roof so will be getting up there to see if there is any damage.
All streets are shutdown so I haven't been able to check the rentals.
Never lost power.
Wild bill alo lost dome trees but not much more.
He did lose power.

Rentals are mostly OK.
Lost a window on a storefront and 2 peeled back porch roofs.
Some roof damage at the cell block but not too bad.

Good to hear Raider Bill thanks for the update. Got a friend from Bradenton haven't heard from him yet but I'm assuming no news is good news, or at least as good as it can be.
