I have a 16 f 250 gas this morning the speedo didn't work and the mileage counter didn't work after about 7m the speedo started working and about 40m later the mileage counter started working anyone have an idea what it maybe

If it's still built like the old ones the cable spins a magnet. There is a cup around
the magnet. The cup gets dragged along by the spinning magnet. If it gets cold
enough the cup wont move. If the cup doesn't move the needle doesn't move.

I had a new 89 F250 460 that did something like that. When you stepped on the brakes the dash went wild. Ford had 2 techs tear every wire harness on the truck open and after 2 days they found a short in one of them.

Coxy, I see you are in NY. United Radio in Syracuse can rebuild/repair your instrument cluster if it isn't still under warranty.
By the way, over the years I have sent 10 times as many chevy clusters out for repair than all the other brands combined.

Speedometer works off of the rear ABS sensors.  Had mine cut once lost everything until they were fixed

Happened on mine with all you listed and the fuel gauge. Found out it was the button to reset the mileage. It sometimes hangs up and does not come out. Press it and let it "flick" back.
P.S. GOOD choice on the Ford!

I've got a Colorado,chevy,bought it from a dealer used. Gas gauge did not work. They replaced the cluster,gas gauge works,the thing that keeps track of the milage don't.

I had a 2000 f250, it did the same 2 times. I do not know if 2016 and 2000 have the same speed system. The solution at that time was to go on the rear diff (on top) over it there is a plug that is a magnet and read how many time the ring gear turns. You unscrew  this plug ( 3/8 in. I think ) clean this little magnet that will have some metal shaving on it and it is why the speedometer cannot read the ring gear speed. My diff was a 4.10

Mine was not working on even indicating wrong speed.Yours is a 2016 so I guess on warranty by Ford !

I think those sensor wires are held in place with a bikini line, so that may be your issue?   :D :D 8)

If it is like my older one . When the speed sensor go the converter lock up quits to. good luck . They are easy to change . Just one bolt . Cheap to .

it seem to be working now but I'm going to take the fuse back out and see if it des it again  them anti lock brakes and traction control suck  ford will get it back there has to be a way to disable it  the button on the dash only disables the rear and when you try to fish tail it the ones in the front come on errrrrr

 My '02 F350 would push the pedal up and offer zero braking and you would just run over your own mailbox in slow motion.  :D

The ABS on my 05 F350 works great on snow. Once the motor kicks in the pedal bounces but it stops really good when empty. With a load it never kicks in. If only I  could find calipers that last more then a couple years.
You should have it looked at. May only take a simple software update to fix.

To me, you have to have a full set of good snows first and foremost
then a little ballast if its a truck.

my 350 and 550 would pull to the right. took the abs fuse out and they stop like they should. brake calipers dont seem to last long before they stick. they did come from napa. that could be part of it

Napa high quality? Maybe compared to some of the others. I asked carquest about brake calipers.  They said They get there's from the same rebuilds. I find most parts are less money or close at the Ford dealer. But I do have a fleet account

I've had worse luck with stuck calipers on the ones I got from the Ford dealer than the ones I've got from Napa. And at least Napa is only 5 miles down the road when I need to warranty one compared to 50 miles to the Ford dealer....

Must be a Ford thing because I've had more stuck calipers on my superduty than I had on all the other trucks I've owned combined.

My local NAPA stocks all brake parts and u joints for Ford trucks. And if its sold out, they can have it the next morning. A friend of mine has 7 or 8 Super Dutys. Usually. one of them is running.  :D

  I work at a Toyota dealer, we do A LOT of calipers!  We run a lot of 4 piston calipers on our Trucks and SUV's we replace a lot of stuck calipers.  We get a little better luck out of the Toyota Reman units than the aftermarket ones.  When a Toyota reman is available it's usually in the same price range as the aftermarket.  We have the best luck with calipers from Autopart International aka Foreign Autopart

  I've got a guy over in Rye that has rebuilt 3 or 4 Chevy HD Speedo clusters for me.  He does a good job, replaces all the bulb...  Pretty sure it was around $200 each, maybe a little less???  It's been a while.  He also rebuilt a "fish stick" for my old Fisher 8ft HD plow.

My F350 has gone through 12 calipers in 35k miles.  Ford quit making them, all l can find are rebuilds now. NAPPA  by me keeps them in stock. Buy online and pickup in the store saves 10%.

  With all the Super Duty stuck caliper talk I'll tell my story from last Sept. 2013 F450 diesel dually, crew cab, long bed, 4X4, just under 30,000 miles pulling my 34' 5th wheel and in Burlington Vermont a caliper stuck and heated up the disc. General consensus is that I don't drive it often enough. Truck and RV have been coast to coast through 43 states but it does sit too long between trips so I'm trying to use it more often even if I'm not hauling anything.

Not much anymore. About 300 miles last year. It sits so high my wife can't climb up in it anymore even with the running boards.  Thinking about one of the 1500 Dodges with 4 corner air that drops 2 inches extra because I can't pick her up these days.

I rebuilt all of the calipers in my superduty with new pistons and square cut orings myself a while back and so far none have stuck. I used a small engine hone and cleaned up the bores nice, also flushed all the fluid at the same time. Figure if somebody else can rebuild them and make them last 2 weeks I can't really do any worse.... ha

Generally speaking (not brand or model specific) use to be that the pistons would stick especially when pushed back in to put new pads because they were dry between the seal ring and the dust boot, a mechanic friend taught me to pump the piston most of the way out and slide the dust boot in and clean that part of the piston then pull the dust boot back out and spray some lube in there before pushing the piston back in.

I can't recall what kind of lube it was, I'm thinking some type of light grease that could withstand some heat.

you think ford is junk wait till you get a dodge  I can say this cause I/my mechanic  have one if I get to use it a week a month I feel special  its nothing but an electrical night mare back a few months ago I wake up to a truck running in my drive way ya the dodge started its self with the key on the dash talk about pile of     driving down the road around 30mph and bam I'm trying to back up still cant figure that out lights go out at night going 70mph down the high way ya its a fun ride if it will stay together or don't kill me by spring its going to the fire co to get cut apart cant wait   8) 8)

My F350 gets it if you let the front tire pressure drop below 65 psi also. Got a warning notice from Ford about it years ago.

That is funny because I had to file for the lemon law for a Red 1989 Chevy 2500HD. The first year of the IFS front end. Brake and front end problems. Spent 8 weeks of the first 4 months I had it in the shop waiting for parts and gm techs to look at it. Told Chevy to give me a different truck, they said never. Filed the papers and the court date was set. Got a call the day the papers were served from the head of GM in Westchester County and he met me at the GM dealer the next with a check for the truck, cap bed liner, and threw in the extra thousand dollar rebate I got when I bought it. They knew they would loose in court and didn't want the mark on their record. Headed to the Ford dealer on the way home. 8)

The new liquid stuff is magnesium chloride and it causes deep corrosion in aluminum. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S221450951730030X here is a article about how it affects different metals. The old stuff they used forever was calcium chloride and aluminum can form an oxide layer to protect itself from that is what I understand just like aluminum boats do in salt water. Time will tell as more road crews spread the liquid for lower temp de icing.
