I bought parts from a company in QC called Apinex and made a laser line for the sawmill. I wrote about that in a recent blog post if you are interested. http://woodchuckcanuck.com/2018/03/09/saw-mill-laser-installation/

50mw makes it a class 3b laser, you want to be some careful with that as it will cause eye damage.  I would be concerned with all the non target area areas you are lighting up.

I've been dealing with them too. Great people and when I had a question they quick to answer my email with a phone call. I should have mine working this weekend. I ordered a 12v-3v transformer on Amazon and did the preliminary wiring yesterday. The batteries didn't last too long for me.

Jim,
So you ended up using the 50mw laser?  Didn't think the 10mw was going to cut it?

I'm curious as to why there is such a broad spread.  Is the laser patter a wide horizontal beam?  Are you going to put "blinders" to limit the amount of spread so as to make it somewhat safer?  Do you have a momentary switch to light up the log when you are ready to cut or are otherwise checking what the cut will be or do you turn it on and leave it on?

Message me the info on the step down transformer, I might do the same eventually. Thanks.

I tried all three to see how they performed. Once I'm under a roof the 10mW should be plenty. I don't know the broadcast angle of the laser. Its about 90º-135º (I guess) based on pictures. The batt box has a rocker switch on it, so I'll only be turning it on when needed on first couple cuts. The big unknown is how well the mount stays in place and how it endures over time with vibration and dust.

Hi Jim. I am interested in what your opinion is on the SGM sawmill and what model you have. Not to many reviews on this sawmill. Hope I'm not interfering on your lazer thread.

Very easy to make one cheap... Build a box. Put in a cheap small motor with a wheel covered with mirrors. Buy a cheap e-bay laser. have a bird size hole with a tube sticking out of it. Good to go...
