A few weeks ago, I decided we need a carport for Nancy's new car. Ordered it before the pig roast, and yesterday
was installation. Four men showed up, and started about 6.00PM. As they worked, I realized I needed to take the security lite down from the gable of the shop. Cut off breaker, went up ladder to see what tools I needed to remove it. Got tools and back up, and had the wrong socket! As I went up the ladder the third time, I got to the top, looked at the lite, and fell all the way to the concrete below!! Don't know how, but I know this fat boy ain't going up any more ladders. Right knee, left shoulder, right wrist broke most of the fall, till my face took the brunt. I had help getting up, and applied ice packs after a self diagnosis. Nothing broke, but really bruised and sore. Did not get pictures of installation, went to bed!! Nancy went this morning and took these shots for me, and one while I was sleeping. NOT A Pretty Sight! Still sore, and will be for a while!!! You all be very careful out there,
because old fat boys don't bounce very far!! :( :( :o :o no_no no_no smiley_thumbsdown

This happens almost as much as getting hurt in the bathtub. .
Dad burn Andy! You're lucky you didn't kill yourself.
Hope you recover fast. :)
Us old skinny boys don't bounce at all :D
Andy sorry to hear of this hope you heal up well .
Ladders can get you and it doesn't need to be that high .

True, 4 or 5 years ago a guy in the county died after falling off a stepladder, if I recall it was only a 5 or 6 foot one, he hit his head on the pave.
Take care Andy.
Ouch! Nice looking carport. I think you will enjoy it!
Andy,
You look like a herd of buffalo ran over you. That might even have been better. Behave yourself and recuperate.
It won't be long until you will have some stickered lumber air drying under that carport ;D.
Andy,
I think you and 4X4 need to load up on his 4 wheeler and ride over to help the Magicman finish is ball hitch project.
Get well soon and be careful out there. Glad it was nothing broken except a little pride and that will recover. Don't worry about remembering - your wife will no doubt do that for you.
DanG Andy, you could really hurt yourself doing that. ::)
Seriously, Pat and I wish for you a speedy recovery.
I did not look at that long. :o You take care. But my next question, what happened up there? No one just falls off a ladder. Better be careful. Have a check up maybe?
DanG !! Similar deal a few months ago. Framing nailer jammed and fell off ladder with nailer in my hand. My head hit the nailer on the ground. Can't show the photo but very similar to yours....Over 6K at the ER....best thing was that the MRI showed no Alzheimers tangles (yet) 2nd best thing was that my copay was $40.00. All my rowdy friends say " stay off ladders at your age" Really ! Hope your recovery is a fast as mine was. You and I are so handsome that we don't want to mess up our good looks. Keep the faith.......
Geez Andy, what does the other guy look like? :D Sure glad you didn't do any serious damage, go easy and allow yourself a chance to heal.
Dang Andy, that's quite a mouse you got there. Take it easy and heal up. That part don't happen as quick as it used to, either.
Dang buddy, you got to learn not to lead with your head. (says the bald guy who's head resembles a baseball from past miscalculations) ;D
Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Hope you get healed up soon Andy. If it's any conselation young kids don't bounce either, my nephew had his ladder go out from underneath him last weekend, only a 6' ladder but he landed on a receiver hitch below, 4 hours in the ER and all was good, but he still hurts too.
Looks pretty sore. Speedy recovery man! I've recently had my 19th orthopedic surgery, so I'm a card carrying member of the bad luck club. Murphy's law is a real bear when you're a Murphy! There's nothing quite like that "OH $#!%" moment when you realize you're in freefall and the ground is rapidly approaching. Lots of thoughts happen in a brief second! Glad to hear nothing broke.
around here those metal carports are popular. a neighbor had one put up a few years ago. it was unbelievable how fast a truck load of mexicans can put one up. they plug in a drill with a screw driving bit in it and never let off the trigger till they are through.
Good to hear you didn't have any serious injuries, but that is one serious shiner you got there. You'll be good as new in a couple weeks.
Get well buddy. Need you to come visit.
Hope you have a quick recovery. With a hit like that you may want a second opinion of your condition. :)
Man O Man Andy, thats not purdy at all. Glad nothing is broke. Take care my friend, I am sure somebody needs your talent someplace. bg

Can I, as the owner of The Forestry Forum make a decree that none of our members are allowed to use ladders any more? Get better Andy!

I know you're hurting buddy. Get well quick! :)
I hope you heal soon. Old saying here: It is not the fall that hurts ya, it is the sudden stop :D. I seriously hope you get well soon.
Andy, Andy, Andy, man I am feeling your pain right now! so sorry to here this, but so glad you came out so good,, I know that sounds trivial, but really, that's good in my book, this could've been lots worse, and I know, you know, take care brother, and the finish looks good! not the purple ;D but the shed! rest easy,, Mercy sakes!
Andy: August must have been bad ladder month. I fell from 5ft onto my tail bone. Not much bounce here either. Bucket of paint in one hand and brush in other. Painted half of me and lots of stull around me.(did'nt even dent the cement). Like Jeff's suggestion about no ladders, but----. Don't know about freight and shipping but maybe we could be partners on a MOBILE ARIAL PLATFORM. Get well soon.
Nice looking carport; ugly shiner. :-\
Be careful out there and get well soon.
Get well wishes from Pete and Linda Andy, but geez I thought you were plenty ugly before this.
I have been thinking that but the swelling did smooth out some of the wrinkles. :D
A while back, Doctor B decreed that nobody over 50 climb a ladder. Nobody listened, including ME. As a group, we are a hardheaded bunch ::)

Who we gonna get to go up the ladders for us?
I've got it. The government should give out, for free, new manlifts for anyone who still does things for themselves. It should offset the hospital visit costs, therefore this new program would be economically viable. ;D
Hope you feel better sooner than you think, Andy. In a week or so you'll be looking back with "fond" memories.

AMMEEENNNN
Gerald
Well, we over 50 don't fall off the ladder every time we go up. ;D
So is it a crap shoot, or is it just being over-confident? or is it another thing that comes with age??
And who will do it, if the rope needs to be placed in a tree for pulling? or the light bulb needs changing in the outdoor lamp? of the chimney needs to be cleaned? or the siding and overhang need painting?
I had a bit of painting to do today up a ladder, was having my morning coffe and contemplating my paint job. Read this and called my daughter and we went fishing..... ;D
Get well soon. ladders are no fun to fall off of, well falling all together at our age aint no fun. :-\
She caught a pike, released it after she took pics, I caught a few perch, she left here with some fillets of fish, paint can wait another day!
Oh man - that looks painful. Sorry to hear it. Glad it wasn't any worse.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Marcel, 2 things I hate the most are heights and painting, you did good my friend :D. Sunday my wife and I got so sick of working on the new place we took the evening off and went fishing, when we got done the pickup was a half a mile away and the house was just across the road ::).
Hope you're healing well. An unplanned expense to the addition that will be remembered.
Good GOOGLEY! Get some rest and heal up. So sorry
Austin
maybe a 5 second rule on going UP each step take 5 seconds before climbing higher
...not a pretty picture, but thanks for posting! Have been on a ladder scrapping/painting for the past two days, with 3 more to go! Will be treading extra careful, keeping your fall in mind...and the fall my dad had off a stepladder years ago--looked just like you except he spit out three chicklets as well. Hope you have a quick recovery! All the best, Rob.
I have a 28' wooden extension ladder that I'm ashamed to show you guys. It has the second rung from the bottom missing and I catch a splinter everytime I climb that DanG thing. A couple times a year I haul it out to look down the chimney or change a yard light. Each time I use it I cuss at myself for being so cheap.
After seeing your shiner Andy, my ladder has a date to meet my chainsaw! ;)
Hope you feel better soon.
Well.......diving off ladders is getting to be a regular thing. I just celebrated 4 months since my crainiotomy. The Dang hole they cut in my head is pretty slow healing. Your face kinda looks like the pictures of mine did after surgery. I hate tubes and wires and hoses. Take care of that thing. It takes a while to get all the way back
And it is good to hear from you Steve. :)
I can only say "Ouch".
It looks like you hurt in so many different ways that it's just not funny. Keep you feet firmly on the ground my friend.
