Thanks! Apparently I missed that in my stumbling about.  I'll see if I can make it work...

Hmm, still no luck.  I rotated the photo in my gallery no problem, but can't seem to find a way to use it as my avatar.  I have an option to choose an avatar from gallery, but it's a generic gallery, not mine.
I remember seeing a "use this picture for your icon" button, but haven't been able to find that again....

Sorry for the trouble... I really am smarter than I look...

I suppose you watched the how to video at the start of this thread. I did mine a long time ago.
Click on to Profile, that's the one that is in the Home, Help, Search line, a drop down will appear, click onto Forum Profile and the place to upload a avatar should be there.

Uploading and avatar has nothing to do with your gallery. It is a function in your profile. Make sure you orient and resize your avatar before uploading. The forum can resize, only if the upload in under the maximim limit. Most times its not.

This is stupid. I have to basically agree to give you my pics. I don't remember it being like this years ago on this forum.
Oh well. Plenty of other forestry , logging and arborist forums on the web .
Really? You suffering licensing income loss from sharing your photos here?
You're given free hosting for your pictures of trees and wood etc., and the links will work on other websites as well. If you're that worried about your IP, then don't post photos.
All my photography is copyrighted under Creative Commons and registered with the Library of Congress. I'm not posting my art here, just photos of trees and wood i.e. "unpublished media".
And yeah, I'd post a link to my photography website but it's not allowed...

Don P

Actually, don't use the gallery here for posting stuff elsewhere. Host/posting, every time we or someone clicks something, all of this costs the forum money.

Anything I post elsewhere is linked to from webspace I rent. The difference is, when the server goes bust, a hacker takes it and demands ransom, (yeah good luck with that friend  :D), or if I don't pay that rent, everything I linked to from there goes to little red X's. I like Jeff's plan and try very hard not to abuse it or cost him unduly.

Magicman

I believe that is called "hot linking" and it is forbidden to hot link anything from the FF anywhere else, even an emoji.

Swingoak, the penalty for posting photos here for use on other websites is banishment. Hot linking images is bandwidth theft

There is no reason why you should not be able to, but not knowing anything about any phone but mine, and not having any idea what kind of difficulty you are having past you say cant make it work, im afraid I've no idea how to help.

Here is a short video to show how to post photos. Please read rules for sharing photos on The Forestry Forum beneath this video link. It's not as hard as you think. 8)

Posting a photo on The Forestry Forum - YouTube

1. Offsite Photos and links to offsite photos are not allowed on the Forestry Forum.
2. If you want to share your photo, it MUST be placed in the Forestry Forum gallery and then placed in a post.
3. Directing people to your gallery is also not allowed. The gallery's only purpose is to archive photos used in posts.
4. Photos not used in posts are not to be uploaded.

5. Deleting photos used in posts is not allowed and considered destruction of forum property and is grounds for being permanently banned from the Forestry Forum
Jeff,
This is a great tutorial, but both of the examples were of posting photos that had just been uploaded to your gallery. How do you do it if you want to post photos that were uploaded to a gallery sometime earlier? I have some photos in a gallery that I would like to post to a forum. But when I select the gallery, the only option I can see is to upload more photos. Can you extend your tutorial to show how to post photos and were previously uploaded to and are already in a gallery?
Thanks

I think some phones render screenshots as png. We dont allow png due to huge file sizes.
There is a good, free photo editing program called IrfanView that will easily convert a png to a jpg or pretty much anything else and you can also crop it. Here's the website:
IrfanView home page
They also have a user forum like this one. It is run by a very opinionated and socially unpolished moderator, so if you can tolerate that, the software is pretty good.
I'm pretty sure it's Windows only.

Jeff

Once you open upload, in that window click on the my gallery ling to go to your existing phots

Ok, from a post the method appears to have been changed for uploading photos.  At the bottom as you are writing a new post or reply, instead of the old button for uploading photos, there is a button that says upload file.  Is this what we're supposed to use?  I tried dragging a photo to this, but it said the photo is too large.  The old software used to automatically resize it for you behind the scenes.  Are you going back to resizing our pics manually or is this something yet to be fixed or added?  Also, how do you get access to your gallery while writing a post?
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

Jeff

Use your gallery as normal and use the embed code under the photo. The gallery link is in the toolbar. If you simply want to embed a photo in the post you can, but you need to reduce the file size on your phone first, and that photo will only be in that post, and not in any album.

On android it is easy. Pick a photo from your gallery and clcik the pencil , or edit, then, in edit mode, the 3 dot menu in the corner, click that and you see resize. 40% is still a bic pic on mine, but small enough to easily upload.

If you continue to use the gallery, it will resize for you unless you have really high octane photos.

after the photo is in the gallery, it seems like more clicks to inset it.  I see the click or drag bar, but not going to the gallery, then I back space to get to my post and then hit modify and paste it.  must be an easier way.  I do the pic to the gallery on my phone and add it to the post on the desktop.

Thats because it does NOT wok the same way. You must get the embed code from under your full photo in your galery, and post that in your post. There is no longer a click to add.

I get internal server error any time I try to upload a picture to my gallery. If I try to put a picture in a post directly from pictures in iPhone or iPad it says format is wrong or it's to big.I'll try and find someone to show me how to do it.I've tried to search how to do it on the internet but they talk over my head.
