I was cruising the videos recently and came across a guy that was drying under clear plastic and putting a containment around the stack. Looked like he made a ring with 2x6 on edge and wedged a piece under the top to keep it tight.

Is there any merit in doing something like this? Will it help keep the boards straight ?

Will the clear plastic cover reach an even temp throughout the stack?

cover the top only. never block the sides.. air flow is critical :)

You have to have air flow to get the moisture out of the wood.

Maybe he's thinking of a solar kiln? But that has fans to move the air, and vents to let the moisture out.

Otherwise you have a combination sauna / mushroom farm....

If you are air drying, just cover the top to keep the rain and sun off, but let the breeze blow through the stack.
