I got my plastic at u-line, steel at northern,  I mostly use plastic now.  steel is strong, plastic does not stain and is adjustable

What type is recommended for strapping stacked lumber using a hand ratchet tensioner?    I've been using 1/2" black nylon.    It's 1/2" because I picked it up for almost no cast at a discontinued product sale.    I want to get something 5/8 to 3/4 inch wide and a little thicker.    I am considering woven strapping as it would be easier to work (more flexible) and really strong. I've noticed with the poly or thicker nylon that it remembers the bends after it is tensioned and is sometimes to difficult to pull it through the metal fasteners to re-tension as the lumber dries or shifts when being moved.
Been there, done that.   Never got caught [/b]

I use half inch.  it fits in the grooves of my top and bottom strap boards.  I try to have them overhand a bit, and that allows some room behind the strapping to work with the tension tools.  that is how I am able to retention.  I pull it to a "middle C" when I strum it.  It will be loose in a month and can be retentioned.

I have the 1/2 nylon with the tensioning tools and crimps. How are you all retensioning these as lumber shrinks?

I just bought 40 2" ericson ratchet straps, 2600 lbs or so. I got then on sale for $7.50 each delivered, taxs in.  I use the new ones on my trailer and have moved the used ones with tears and such to the bundles of lumber. I am able to tighten easy enough before they go in the kiln and some lumber I will open the kiln and tighten again.
I do have poly banding that is one time use with metal crimps. I will use them on stuff going out the door for good.

some systems use a buckle instead of a crimp on sealer, and can be retentioned.
