Kubota gets a workout
« on: June 13, 2021, 08:22:35 AM »
A friend of mine bought 23 acres of land recently and asked me how much to bush hog it. It's just grass and weeds grown up in an old corn field. Last had corn growing 2 years ago. I told him $50 an acre. I did 14 acres yesterday. 9 more to go.

Thats a lot of bushhogging.  Do I see a visitor in the second pic?  The land I bought has some overgrown trails that need to be bush hogged to make them really useful again, plus we are going to expand the trails.  I need to put mine on.  I drove on them this morning with the mule, but had to drive over some trees up to about 1/2" thick.  That's a little much for my zero turn to handle.

Yep. There was a doe that was curious about what I was doing. Finished mowing today. 17 hours on the meter for 23 acres.

Around here there would be folks falling all over themselves offering him 2 or 3 hundred an acre to farm that for him, especially if it sat empty this year.

I don't think anyone will ever farm this land again. My friend is a developer and if I was a betting man, I'd say there's going to be townhomes in this property. Less than 30 minutes from Charlotte NC these homes will be sold before they are even built.

You did good, but definitely earned your money. Hope the sun was hidden for you.

Stayed cloudy a good bit. I'm pretty impressed with the little Kubota. Pulled that 5' rotary cutter about 3.5 mph with no complaints.

Oh yeah they will.  And everything but the dirt will be trucked in from out of state.

While I'm brush-hogging my fields I'll often see coyote's wandering around looking for mice.
