You don't have to look deep at all, you are correct that the government pays a substantial premium if you allow testing and they destroy your flock.  It's well over what you would have received via your contract or market value.  I don't recall the exact #'s but on my NPIP paperwork it gave the payouts for cooperating vs being difficult.

No one is even making a rumour up here over H5N1, since a flock or two were culled and blamed on free range birds. It all went quiet. And if you look at news media before the late 90's and read recent studies and pre-2020 news articles on the flue, one or several strains of the human transmissible kind have no effective vaccine against it. Written and spoken in plain English.

Question?

If you knew your herd was infected with the virus, would you still sell raw milk to your customers?

This virus isn't an unknown, it's pretty well studied, and HAS killed people over recent years. Infected cow's milk also contains viable viruses that can cause infection. There is also a somewhat effective vaccine available, but that's a whole other subject.

I just see the parallels with the start of Covid, when it was all "What virus? Nothing to see here, move along people". I sure as heck hope the outbreak does fizzle out, but that's not the same as ignoring it and just hoping it goes away.

This whole thing is an attempt to deflect attention from the bumbling emperor who is running around naked.  Somehow this magical virus doesn't kill birds - the USDA shows up and does that - it only affects dairy cattle and causes them to go off feed or drop milk production, and it only causes pink eye in humans.

@Ianab

You keep comparing to Covid... Does it matter that "the flu" went away during Covid times? We got scammed. It was the flu the whole time. Old people perished, just like always with normal flu seasons. Then people took the vax and perished because mRNA doesn't treat humans well (sudden deaths). It would have run its course much faster and in a safer-for-humanity way had we all said "nothing to see here."

I'm not trying to be insensitive to anyone that has lost someone to the virus but I do believe the fix was in and now we are learning that to be true (if we didn't see it from the beginning).

It was a desperate and effective way to keep people home during election season and they'll continue trying it until it clearly doesn't work anymore.

Sorry, I don't buy the "election disruption" theory. The other 95% of the World isn't involved in the US election shenanigans. You think China would lock down, and lose $billions to help a US politician? The virus was real, it was one that hadn't infected people before (novel), and so we had low natural immunity to it. Now most people are now either vaccinated, survived, or both (and some are dead). So it's dropped back to the same level as flu and RSV etc. Things you may randomly catch, but probably survive.

Influenza is a different virus family from Covid, and H5N1 is strain of that. But it appears to be nasty when it affects humans. BTW, flu went away for a while because International travel was WAY down, and people took hygiene seriously at the time. Total flu cases in NZ in 2021 were 2. No new strains got imported.

I guess I'm just drawing the analogy from "Bats in China" to "Cows in the US". The viruses are real, they do mutate over time, cross over species. and if they are ignored, that will bite us in the backside, again.

I'm not sure I can respond without getting political, but yes, in this instance I think China would lock down to "help" a US politician.

You scratch my back, I will scratch yours.... Without a doubt they would do so.  Look no further than Burisma, Ukraine and their $1 Billion special prosecutor.

The Trudeau government in Canada has been grilled over election interference from China for the last 2 years, involving 2 elections. Been in many news outlets, nationally. So it's no farce.

Ian these "bats in china " you speak of wore white coats and the cave they flew out of was a laboratory.

What amazes me after all we've been through after the last so-many-years... is people still listen to and believe what they are told, by proven liars.
The government lies constantly, if I have to list any examples to prove it to you, you're not old enough for this conversation. The media lies constantly, and again, if I have to show you examples, you're not fit for the conversation. Get back to me after you've a passed high school history class.

Anyone that tells you "The science is settled" knows absolutely nothing about science (and is trying to manipulate you), if I need to explain that to you... sit down and let the adults handle things.

If you simply paid attention to the information that does get released, you would know they're constantly lying to you, because they constantly flip-flop their narratives. Specifically towards the KungFlu, we've recently had congressional testimony from the persons themselves that they pulled the mask and 6-foot rules out of their nether regions. But people still believe the other things they told you, now that they've admitted those were lies?

It's like watching the woman go back to her alcoholic abusive husband because he SWORE it's the last time he's going to do that to her. And he really means it this time.

At some point you have to just walk away to save yourself. They're a lost soul, and don't want to be helped. Learning the story about Plato's shadows, and the fact that it's been like this for thousands of years apparently, has helped me to cope with it. The Milgram experiment is another good tool to familiarize yourself with at times like these.

I wonder what dollar value China would place on unification of Taiwan without interference from the US, because let's face it if we sit that one out then the rest of the world is going to watch from the bleachers.  Couple $ Billion - oh yea, deal of the century and far cheaper than one weeks worth of military action.

Rest of the world will not sit on sidelines with China invading Taiwan.   More than 1/2 of the worlds silicon semiconductor for IC chips are manufactured in Taiwan at TSMC.   Lets say the EU has a vested interest in keeping IC supply chains secure.
