Peter, just search pigroast on the forum and you will see lots. This will be the 9th annual pigroast. One year we had 26 states, 3 countries and 3 Canadian provinces represented. You and your family are more that welcome to come. :)
Google maps said it could not calculate the directions from Glennallen Alaska and where the pig roast was to be .
drive east, then south :)
Jeff,
I am planning on coming down I am about an hour and a half away, I have a business I started recentlyl related to firewood products. I am trying to learn as much as possible about this industry. I would like you to e mail me at your convenience I have a couple of questions. kalglass@charter.net

I am going to do whatever it takes this year to make it there. So...Count me in at 30
Ron & Jan make it 32.

They had a big enough spread of other dishes that you sure wouldn't be going hungry. The salads and other fixins were pretty DanG good. 8)
Raviolikid makes it 33. I'm "flexitarian" (Semi-vegan) and there is always lots to eat - but the eating is secondary to seeing all you great people.
I've got it on my calendar. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works out.
Tramp Bushler, I just checked Google Earth and it showed up to be this. You surley would see some sites on the way. bg

Anybody going with an RV/camper? Which campground will you stay at? I am just in the thinking stage now.
Here is where we stayed and I recommend it. It is only a couple of miles from Jeff and Tammy's home.

A most excellent campground. We've stayed there twice.
There is also the State Park campground.
Three of the Stump Jumpers will be there.
Jeff, Delcy and Monica. Plus 2 dogs. We will be heading North across the bridge afterwards.
Hopefully will have time to make cheesecakes. That makes 40!
Yes, the State Park looked very nice. I would recommend reservations wherever you stay.
Yes, reservations should be made as Harrison is the county seat for Clare county, and that is also the week of our county fair.
I'm going to try and go with my son . This should make 42 . scouter Joe
I will be there. 43
Don't forget me. ;D 44
Jeff, did you get my message? bg
Oh boy, I finally get to meet the infamous SwampDonkey! ;D

Jeff, I hope I can attend before I go to the sawmill in the sky, but it usually coincides with my alumni reunion at the NYS Ranger School in Wanakena NY
This is the 100th anniversary of the school
To all ENJOY!!

Well, the Mrs and I really wanted to make it this year but have family visiting and I just started a new job. This is the closest we've gotten yet - the job thing is what pushed it over. Sure hope you all have a grand time. Can't wait until we get to visit and finally meet everyone.

You can bet i wanted to Steve. 8) But it's just not going to happen. Right now I'm dealing with an issue with my truck. It barfed the transmission all over I-99 in PA yesterday while pulling the 5th wheel. I need to take time off work to go get it and the camper when it's fixed. Still don't know what that's going to cost.

Me and my kid will be there again. We wondered if you(Jeff) could maintain your pool at 86* (+ or - .5*) for our visit? My kid has no fat, so he likes it warm. I'm just a fat wimp :D

Just got the tracking info from Bailey's that one of this years door prized is on the way. This year Bailey's have given us a Husqvarna chainsaw to give to a lucky Forestry Forum attendee :) Thanks to Bailey's!!
Oh no. What will Swampdonkey do with two chainsaws ???.
Thank you, Baileys 8).
Hope springs eternal, I'm still going even if SD is there.
Funny part is, I seem to be lucky for a guy that never plays the lottery. :D
looking more and more likely to make it , Jeff, you still got room to put up a tent at your place?

Absolutely. :) In fact, I've not had any other requests for camp sites this year so far.

Do you have room for a 34ft fifth wheel with 2 people and a dog?
Theres plenty of room if you can maneuver it in. We dont have any utility hookups however. Dogs are welcome but you need to be aware that Icey has no use for other dogs. She's been known to show them so. Better camping is available very close if you choose not to rough it.
We stayed here: http://www.hiddenhillcampground.com/
I think that was the place I went to take a shower just down the main street a bit and left up a little hill. Seemed like a nice fellow running it.

I made reservations at Hidden Hill, Ginger and I are both getting too old for fighting ;D . This will be our first time to the FFPR (forestry forum pig roast) so what do we bring other than smiling faces and a piece of wood to get identified? Add 2 people to the list, Ginger will stay at the camp ground.
PatD and Magicman will be there. 61

Returning from Wood-Mizer, Rick Lauman (Wood-Mizer Electrical Service Tech Guru) will be attending. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to come last year, but my best friend is getting married out in California on that exact date... And I'm supposed to be in the wedding. ::)
Someone eat some pork for me!
Add two more to mine. Rooms are booked, so looking forward to seeing all of you this year since I missed last year. 69 ;)
What hotel/motel would any of you recommend?
I'll defer that to the other members that have stayed before. I've never stayed in any of them. :) There are some that I could not recommend if specified.
I usually stay in Clare. The Doherty is a nice old hotel right in downtown Clare. (Right across from the White House 24 hours breakfast & burgers)
There is another hotel just as you come into Clare...a Days Inn or something like that. I've stayed at each and both are ok
I stay in Mt Pleasant. Fairfield Inn is my favorite. Only a 20 minute drive to Jeff's place.

Brad
What time does it start?
Here is basically the timeline of the pig roast. (more or less) :D
The Pig roast has evolved into more then Saturday. Anyone that wants to come Friday is more then welcome, but be prepared to be assigned a job, like holding down a chair or something. ;D For any one here, we have a supper that evening and get the pig in the roaster.
Saturday morning we have a breakfast for anyone that is here early or still here from the night before. The actual pig roast as far as we are concerned is underway as soon as the pig hits the roaster the night before. We try to eat around 12 or 1, something like that. When ever everything comes together. If you don't show up until then, that's fine, but you are really missing out if you wait. In the afternoon we usually gather around and have drawings for door prizes that sponsors (and sometimes members) have provided. There is no end time. Usually its around midnight or after before people drag up and go to bed.
Sunday. Some people hang out or stop back by to visit and help pick up the biggest of the remains of the night before.
What to bring. Yourself and spouse, your kids, swim cloths if you want to swim. If you want to bring a dish to pass, that's cool, but totally unnecessary or expected.
I'm hoping to run up for the afternoon. Call me a likely 71
:o Looks like there will be a Whack of folks there. smiley_thumbsup

Are there any flea markets nearby that would be open Friday morning? Always looking for a bargain.
There is a flea market less than a mile from my house. It may be open friday because it is next to the fair grounds, and that is the last weekend of our county fair this year.
Hana and I might be coming. Can't commit at this time but we are going to try to make it this year.
Here Piggy, Piggy Piggy......
WEEEEE WEEEEEEEE!!
Hopefully by next year I will be able to attend. Sounds like a good time to be had and a lot of fine people to enjoy company with. Would be great to put some names and faces together.

My two boys will not be coming to the pig roast but they will be riding from Oklahoma to Lexington Michigan to stay with BIL. I will drop them off Friday and then head up to the piggy roast. They are 4 and 8 years old. That is at least 18 hours.
I'm trying to talk my family into going, they are asking me what there is for my boys. My boys are 8 and 10. I'm not real sure what is going on up there to tell them seeing as this would be my first year going. What should I tell them?

I lke to follow this thread each year. Makes me smile alot. Seems better than family here. ;D
Last year on the 23rd of July, the count was 34.
And to think there was talk of holding the pigroast every two years, due to lack of interest!
I was informed last month that my supplier of blueberry waffle-cone ice cream would no longer be able to get it for me, so we gave up on the idea. yesterday I found reference to the brand and flavor at a place in Saginaw. We gave them a call and they said that the owner would have to call us yesterday evening. He did call, but told us he could not guarantee delivery in time for the pigroast. :'(
HOWEVER, he went on to tell us, that Mooney's ice cream is not actually made by Stroh's/Mooney's but made by surefresh, who sells it under the Strohs or Mooney's brands. He then gave us a tip on where to call. Turns out we will be picking up a generous supply of our favorite pigroast ice cream flavor just 15 miles away tomorrow. 8)

Dave,
My 10 year old son will be with me, and so will at least one other 10 year old members son. Mine loves soccer and gettin' dirty, although not necessarily in that order. :D He's bringing his bike, soccer ball, swim trunks, and ball glove. Knowing him, he'll end up playing swords with sticks like last year. We're coming up the night before with the pick-up camper. I have quite a few relatives in the area, and we'll probably go park in one of their driveways a bit after dark. We'll then allow them to make us breakfast in the morning, then head back over to Jeff's for some pig. 8)
My wife said that she would skip the pig and go for the BlueBerry ice cream first. bg
There will be plenty of both. :) This icecream is hands down my favorite of all time.

Sandhills, while they're gone you can help me. If I can get Jeff to leave me the keys, we can make a few changes around here. We'll weed whack around the WOODSHED and take the mower down to the back 40 and mow it and when we get that done, re-negotiate some deals with a few sponsors. Then we will evaluate the pay scale of our Administrators to better get inline with our next years budget.

How about slide down a zip line wearing a pig costume? :D

David, I want to see you on the Sycamore thread. https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php/topic,59483.40.html
Okra.....are you and Ms. Squash going to the Pig Roast?
I don't think we can make it. But there is a "thing" developing down in Georgia on Sat before Labor Day. We're looking at possibly going down there. However, the development of it is a bit sporadic, as it was just Customsawyer, WDH, and some people saying, hey, let's mill up some Sycamore and whoever wants to can come. So that's why I wanted you over on that thread to see if you could come to it.
8)
You will have to do another pig roast with out the wife and I as there is no way we are getting this order done in time. :(
You all keep backing out and I might win my own gallon of maple syrup to bring back home! :'(
Nah! I think Jeff would probably hold it for safe keeping. ;D
So, will there be camera coverage at the piggy roast this year, for us less fortunate? ???
I posted earlier that we were thinking about coming. Looks like we are definately coming aslo will be heading up the great UP to conduct a little business. Should be a great weekend! ;D
BBTom,
I am looking forward to winning that maple syrup! At the first Pig Roast that I attended in 2007, you brought some, and that was some of the best stuff that I have ever tasted 8).

I have to admit, I have never had any syrup unless it came from the grocery store. How does Jeff's compare?
QuoteHow does Jeff's compare?
The grocery store's syrup is much thicker than mine, and sweeter too. Mostly, because, I don't have syrup. smiley_whacko

:D :D :D The way they were talking, I thought you were giving away some VERY good syrup, that you got from a tree. But your reply....."mostly because I don't have any syrup" was too Dang FUNNY. :D :D :D

Hey J, Where you stay?
I'm in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire
jPell, maybe someday I'll pick you up on the way by. :D
The camper is now hitched up and we have 2 days to get it loaded to head west. Monday morning we will start this trip by going to Elk County PA for 2 days to look at the elk and then Wednesday somewhere in Ohio and into Michigan on Thursday. Depending on what time we get to Hidden Hill Campground on Thursday we may give Jeff's place a "drive-by" to make sure we can find it. I'm getting hungry!
Gary
I think my son Ian is coming. That makes 76
No problem on the drive by, 'cept if we spot ya, we may put you to work. :D
I hope I can make it. It is looking good right now.

Nope, just me and half of the rest of us. :D
I have a few grey whiskers this morning, what's left on top is pretty grey to. :D

Poston I think ya really should reconsider the gorilla costume ;)
Poston, don't listen to him, he obviously is looking for a human sacrifice for some reason or another. Gorilla's other than the one in my avatar, who happens to reside in Florida next to a resin Manatee, are not, and never will be welcome.

No Gorilla suit for me, Burl......I DON'T WANNA GO TO THE WOODSHED. The last time Jeff let me weed whack and clean up around the wood shed, I heard Spencer reciting the Lord's Prayer inside. That place gives me the creeps. :D

That's the whole idea, jpell. I really would like to go at least once.
The weather outlook is starting to take a turn towards the not so good. It's still a ways a way, but it looks like we may have to put up the dreaded canopies. I hate to do it, because we have some very nice oaks and maples in our yard that give a great amount of shade, and are a whole lot more pleasant to look at.
Much easier to deploy the canopies before the event instead of during a rain shower. ;)
My excuse for that is, there was, according to the local weatherman, zero chance of rain that day. :D
Jeff I wish you could send that down here for a few days we'd both be tickled, on the other hand if your weather is anything like ours a 50% chance of rain is a guaranteed 99.9% chance it won't :-\.
Rain was always an issue in Wood Procurement. Rain was a Wood Procurement Forester's Moriarty.
One of the heavy breathers in the company that I used to work for would say to us when we got in trouble and had to pay more for to get wood, "It rains on the just and the unjust."
To paraphase WDH. It don't rain on the just and unjust.
Sadly I am in Jake's boat too :( as I am still just getting stuck into things here as I now have 40000bft of Cypress to do and I am just about to get into Falling a block of Pine for My sawlogs and Dad's houselogs along with picking the new mill up and rigging it up to suit Me and Getting the new to me Truck on the road its like starting all over but its Great to be sawing again :) ;) ;D ;D I was debating rite on upto today Just to book the bloody ticket and come over for a couple of days to catch up with all you good people but it looks like it will be next years Ill try dragging Alan and Carl over with me too next year ;) ;D ;D 8) 8)
Best Regards & Have a Great Time Everybody Chris
smiley_thumbsup We will head North this afternoon. move_it
Drive careful, and watch out for those that don't, Lynn.
I've had a few more people say they are coming, that have not said so on the RSVP. If you get a chance to come, COME! You do not have to RSVP to attend. The reason for the RSVP topic is to get a rough idea on what to expect. Its also to encourage others to attend. :)

Regrets...actually, two months ago we were planning a trip up your way, even to Canada. That was before the drought became so serious, and...before I decided to have my gall-bladder removed a few days ago. :o
doing A-OK, so have a great roast, maybe next year!
What's the approximate COUNT now?
I fly into Saginaw Friday around 5 should be showing up at Pig Roast HQ around 6:30-7pm after checking into the hotel. Hopefully you guys leave me some boiled dinner! digin1
Sandy and I plan on showing our mugs.
We are now in MI! Only 9 miles out of Ohio but in MI. This morning when we woke up in Elk Co PA we had 2 elk in the campground to watch us leave, very nice. Heading to Harrison tomorrow.
My work finished up and the boss gave me Friday and Monday off. 8)
I'll be loading up the bike tonight and heading out in the morning!, 688 miles to Harrison. I should be pulling in Saturday morning.

Are you bringing the new Lady?
You guys are great, can't wait to get there.
Bill, unfortunately no. She can't make the hard run. She is a delicate flower and needs gentle handling. Yea, I don't know what she's doing with me either! :D
Jon
First arrivals are here! And probably the furthest drive. James and his friend Danial are here from Northern Washington state!
We should always remember that Jon's 2000th post contained the words "Delicate Flower" :)

So going to miss out being there.... :-\ I won't be able to control Bill at the restaurant, Jon you up to the task ???
I checked in a few hours ago. Looking forward to seeing everybody
Wish I could be there to join in the fun. Hoist one for me, only one!
Doc, I'm listening, only raising one at a time.
No need to worry at a Forestry Forum pigroast. There may be a beer or two for a few that enjoy that, but this weekend is not about beverages. We make sure it's something that everyone can attend without reservation.
Weekend Sawyer is getting on the road!
See you all tomorrow morning.

That Weekend Sawyer rode in, won the chainsaw in finest fashion (with some fine coaching even if I have to say so myself :)), then drove off in the settling sun ;D. A fine figure of a man ;).

Well, home safe and sound and full of pig. I really thought long and hard about going since I would be by myself for the first time. Jane's little sister, Joyce and her husband Tim said they would like to go as they had heard us talk about the fun we had a previous roasts. On the trip home, they repeatedly commented on how friendly everyone was and that it was more like a family reunion. Dodgy's darling daughter really made a hit, she is a little doll. Sure great to see old friends again. Watching the games was a blast. And to the Fat Olde Elf, I'm still ahead of you. ;D
See I think Weekend Sawyer should have to do it over, 'cause I was in the bathroom when he did it and I didn't see no pictures of it! ;D
I think he had help building that log cabin also!
Which young lady wore the JohnDeere hat? She wore it very well, I should add. :)
That would be Grace, first time to the pig roast for her, won't be her last though!
Yes she is a JD gal, as much as I try to convert her to IH ;D
Hang in there Grace. You are on the right track. ;D ;D
Sure was fun seeing old friends like "the Elf", Bill the WEAVER, BB Tom, WD, and of course, the Boss, who was tired but in fine form. A real fine crowd of good folks who, collectively , have more common sense than all those people in Washington, D.C. put together.
I got rained on twice heading back to Ohio. Whipped in under an underpass and popped the roof up on the Bird and kept goin'. Hope the weather held up in Harrison. The radio was talkin' twisters somewhere in Michigan.
AS I was leaving, saying goodbye and thanks to Jeff, I had him sign my hat and he said no one had ever asked him to do that. I may have been first but I bet I won't be the last!! 8) 8) 8)
A big thanks to Jeff , Tammy and all those that helped make this gathering the huge success that it was . It was really nice to meet other members of the forums and talk to like minded folk . Hope to make it again next year . Thanks again , scouter Joe . (not Scooter Joe )
It was great to see everybody again. Yesterday, i rode down to Mansfield, OH, and snapped a pic of my bike in front of the prison used in the filming of the Shawshank .
Today I rode into PA and saw an old covered bridge. Right now, I'm in Jamestown, NY
Just got home about 7:00pm this evening. Went north up thru the UP and down thru Wisconsin. Went thru milwalkee just a couple of hours after the shooting and we couldnt go down the street we wanted to because the police had it all blocked off.
The roast was great and only because Jeff and Tammy did such a bang up job. I know that they spent untold hours at preparing all that great food.
Thanks for putting together the drawing and the method of the show down on some of the prizes. A many thanks also to all the people that provided all the great prizes.
It was great to meet so many people from many different states.
If there was a prize to be given, Jeff and Tammy would have won best party in town. Thanks again for what you have done. bg

Great job Tammy and Jeff, and all the others who made the roast possible. Thanks to the people who donated the prizes. Especially the people who donated the gas Grill I had the fortune to win. Nice seeing you all again. Hope everyone had a safe trip.
Thanks again to everyone!

We just got home and what a wonderful and safe trip it was. We met several new to us members and it seems that we did not get to spend nearly enough time with anyone.
Jeff, Tammy, and family really go all out to make the Pig Roast a success, and they were successful. I did not see anyone that was lonely or hungry. There is just no way that I could describe the friendship that exist throughout the FF membership.

That is unlike you Bob, as you are usually so quiet :).
Well, here I am. After pig roast'n and spending a few days in the UP with the Brokaws and the OWW gang, I was on my way to the Soo, then home. Great time as always.
:) Some folks I missed a goodbye as I was poking around Harrison for a fare bit, so goodbye until next time. ;)
It was wonderful finally being able to spend some time talking with you SD. We had a nice Fur conversation. :D

I have finally found a few minutes to look at the forum after what has been a wonderful vacation, starting with the FF pig roast and ending with a visit from buds from the west coast who followed me home from our 40th high school reunion.
I want to thank Jeff, Tammy and all who work to make the FF pig roast such an epic event. It is always great to meet up with old friends and make new friends.
If you have not had the opportunity to make it ot the pig roast I highly recommend it. 8)
Looks like I may make it next year. How far from lima ohio?
283.7 miles = 4 hours and 37 minutes driving time, so there is NO excuse for not attending.
