Yesterday we ordered the pig and the port-a-potties (MEN'S and LADY'S!) so that means it is time to start getting a count for the pigroast. :)I'd like to take a moment and encourage, that this year, if you have been meaning to come, but keep telling yourself " I'll make it next year", Make it this year! No one knows what the future holds, and as I get deeper in this life, I'm beginning to get a fuller understanding of that. We should grasp each moment like it is the last and celebrate it! Now, on to the details!
Remember this is a family event. We have a pool for the kids and when we know there is going to be a group, we plan activities to include them. So, if ya got em, BRING EM! :DYou are not required to rsvp to attend, but we sure would appreciate it if you think there is a good chance you are coming to add your number of attendees to our count. This gives us a good idea on what to expect and also gives incentive to others to come. You can always retract if you need to, but you won't ;) :).
Area Motels (https://maps.google.com/maps?q=48625+lodging&hl=en&ll=43.995778,-84.92981&spn=0.51866,1.344452&sll=43.919529,-84.736322&sspn=1.038641,2.688904&hq=lodging&hnear=Harrison,+Clare,+Michigan&t=m&fll=43.995778,-84.92981&fspn=0.51866,1.344452&z=10)

There are a handful that turn up on those google maps that we will strongly advise against. There are plenty of very good places to stay.
ITINERARY:
Friday, August 4th, Set up day, visiting, pig prep, boiled dinner for supper! Bon fire. Swimming, more visiting
Saturday, August 5th, Pancakes and Sausage breakfast at 8 a.m., Pig around noonish, followed by door prizes and visiting.
Please continue the count in your post. :)

My wife and I makes 9.
Gerald
Well this is certainly a disheartening start compared to every other time we started a RSVP topic.
Joyce and I make 11. Wildflower already knew we were coming but this makes it official .
Add 4 more for us! Myself, Jenny, bark beetle and Henry.
15
Judy and I makes it 17
Add 2 more to your count Brian and Bonnie Johansen I think that makes the count to 19
Things are starting to look up! :)
Add 3 more, Jim, Diane and I. The count reaches 22.
wow brian can count,,,, it s an inside joke ,,,too funny
Add 2 more Nancy and I 8)

There is a good chance I could make it. Just me.
How many days ahead of time do I have to arrive to kick your butt bass fishing?
If anyone has advice on a motel\hotel nearby I would appreciate it.
You could message me or post it if you prefer. Thank you in advance.
We are excited to be coming this year!
Linda and I will be there lord willin
We do not recommend the Deer trail
I have stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms, and the Deer Trail was the worst place that I have ever stayed in.
Come on people we are at 29. I know there are more coming. It is a fun time. I am looking forward to talking to everyone. Oh I get to add 5 more for our neighbors. So the count is now 34.

My travels for fun things are based on how well I do with the mill and the welder . as of this post not so good . This is on my priority list and I will do anything I can to make it .
Doc does this mean you will be there? Hope so
I would truly love to come to finally meet some of you fine folks. Unfortunately, this is the same weekend as another woodworking event I'm already attending in Idaho.
Shoot!
Well I plan on coming at this point which would bring the count to 40
Matt
oh boy! Kingcha bread! 8)
This year Kitty and I will not be making it. :'( Way to many things going on this summer. At this point anything we do is limited to where we can go, do something, and get back all within the 2 day weekend.
That said, I'm pretty sure there will be some of Kittiz Kreations products on the prize table anyway. :)
Jan and I make it 42.
Judy and I plan to attend.
42 + 2 = 44
Add one more. I will hitch a ride with Yukon and family.

Hello my friend, and your first post is coming to the Pig Roast. It just don't get any better than that.

This is the absolutely the latest I have ever signed in !

Has anyone stayed at the Acorn Motel or the Lakeside Motel? Would appreciate your input - the good, the bad, the ugly ;) . Thanks. Richard
MR and MRS Beaver, Plus Daughter, Karie and Son-In -Law, Chris.
See you all then and we should have some door prizes as last time. What do you prefer? Shirts, Hats, Tote bags?
That makes 60
I see that Lakeside Motel & Cottages scores pretty good on Tripadvisor. Any other input on that property?
I'm not absolutely positive I'll make it but I'd make 61.
Any info on the Mackinaw Bridge? I've never been over it but my drivers were always leery of it due to winds if I understood correct? That would be my route if I can make it.
BB,
The T-shirts are way cool. Love mine. My favorite.

Thanks for that. Any input on the hotel?
If you have any concerns about driving the Bridge, the Bridge Authority will drive you with your vehicle across for you. That includes "18 wheelers" also. Usually a non-issue though as Jeff stated. Check AM radio station 530 for Bridge information before crossing for current conditions.
Made our reservations at lakeside today. Stayed there last year. Nothing fancy but no problems.
We are also staying at lakeside. 8)
I don't understand all this talk of motels and such. A gathering of foresters, loggers, sawyers, etc., and y'all can't raise a little ol' bunkhouse to stay in? Pig roast and barn raising!
90% sure that myself and the better half are coming. Can't wait to meet some of you wood crazzed people. 1st time, fill me in on proper protocal. What to bring? Food etc? Wantedto come last year but had conflicts. Believe this makes 65
Our schedule hasn't been agreed upon yet for that weekend so I can't commit to Saturday. If we can't make it Saturday I may come for the festivities Friday evening.
I'll be there. So I guess that makes 64
One month from today! How many of you are still on the fence?
Jeff.
My wife and I are making plans to attend for the 1st time. The only stopping me know is work. I need to clear that hurdle this week.
66
Ron
I am still on the fence. I want to come but the week before that I will be in WI. hard to make another 10+ hour trip right after a week of traveling.
I am adding 1 my lovely Aunt Denise!
67
Dick and Jane will be there. 69
A very special, very famous guest is attending this year! Be sure to come to meet this guest in person!
The pigroaster got a seasonal prep and paint update yesterday for this year's pigroast.

SO my understanding is that kiddos are welcome. if that's the case my wife and 3 kids (4, 2, and 1) would love to come as well if that's ok.
ABSOLUTELY!! Kids are certainly welcome. Wives to in fact. :D We have a pool and a big slobbery dog and Tammy plans on stuff for the kiddos. :)
So I will amend the count up by 4 to

I would really love to come but I'm unfortunate enough to live in Greece. I would be looking into more than 2 grand for the plane tickets and accomodation and the budget just isn't quite there... Anyway, I hope to make it some time in the future. :'(

Cant wait to see everybody, old and new friends.
Getting a itch for roasted pig.
I'm on the fence but leaning towards making the drive up. If I do I will bring one extra. Not sure where that puts the count.
Howdy makes it:
87
Not sure how important the count is but it is beginning to look very doubtful for me. Lack of mobility and all that goes with it. Down to 86 I guess. Make it a good one!
The count just gives us a rough idea for planning. RSVP is not requoted to attend. If you find at the last moment you can come, then come! :)
Its getting real now. Washed and fired up the extra refrigerators and freezers and washed the pole barn floor. Pole barn is in full transformation mode from the Dodge truck rejuvenation center into Pigroast central!
With a great deal of sadness and a fair amount of anger, I'm afraid I won't be able to attend after all. An idiot running a stop sign the other day means my truck won't be up to making the trip. No injuries, other than to my plans and truck. Have a great party! Maybe next time.

Staying at Hidden Hill RV park.

We plan to be up there Thursday evening. 8)
My youngest son ,Henry (6), kept asking when we were going to "Mish". We couldn't understand why he was calling it that. Today he asked when were we there before because he didn't remember going there before, then it made sense. He thought we were going to " Mish" again.... instead of Michigan :D

5 guests already. 2 from western Yooperrland, 2 from Vermont, and one from Oregon.

Kids are great. A few years ago my son, about 3.5 at the time, was looking at what I was cooking. He said to me and my ex, "wooks wike titen". Of course we responded with kitten and every sort of word we could think of that sounded like that. He kept repeating himself, not getting frustrated. Then finally he just belted out, "cockadoodle do...titen". Oh, chicken.
I'll never forget that memory.
Have no fear ers! Come on up. It's close enough if you don't like us, we can follow you home. ;) :D
Sorry for the late notice, but it looks like Joanne and I will be there. So that makes it about 657 or so, right?
Sorry to say that I'll have to take a pass on this years Pig Roast.
I was planning on going, but the current project just keeps on growing.

It turns out that spiral stairs around an un-shaped tree trunk are a challenge . . . who knew?
It would've been great to sit with WDH and Customsawyer to figure out how the heck to build this DanG. thing....
Have fun all of you, and safe travels all of you Sawyers!
Howdy Evil, Come on over. The folks are warm and welcoming, the food is tasty-fine, and the swag is abundant. I too wondered about attending and would I fit in or be an outsider, but from the first sighting I knew I had found new friends and would have a good time. I came from Oregon and was hoping to learn the people that populate the Forum were as genuine in person as they are online. Once I wandered into the fray everyone I spoke with could not have been more friendly. I had a wonderful time and know you will be just as welcome.
We are Michigan bound! 8)

Have a daughter that is having C-section at 9:30 in the morning. Want to stop by hospital to check on her and see newest grand baby, then we should be on the road by noon. We are staying at Osceola Grand Hotel and may come by tomorrow night for the Friday night action, then of course be back Saturday.
When we last came two years ago, we brought door prizes that we did on our embroidery machine. This year our door prize offerings are coming off our laser engraver, but thats all the info you will get and will have to wait and see on Saturday.
Mrs. Beaver and I cant wait to see you all again
sounds like some nice prizes cant wait to see pics thank you for your support 8) 8)
Coxy, you still have plenty of time to get here.
I know ;D but I had to do a big honey do list in order for me to get my new toy I agreed to spend a week up north before the logger fest and just couldn't swing every thing in one month don't know what it is but everyone always plans things in August ??? :) I will get there someday :)
Wont be riding anywhere in this weather, have to give it a try another year.

See all of ya all in about an hour and a half! 8)
What a beautiful day. Sunny and cool. I have some work to do this morning and then plan on coming over a little later. Been a Forestry forum fan for a long time and a new member for a couple of weeks ! I don't have far to go, I only live about 10 miles away. 👍
For those of us still stuck at the mill,,,,please keep the pics coming ! Enjoy 8) 8) 8)
Heading out, should be there just in time for unveiling of the pig! Had to spend some quality time training the pup before I left.
Rod is muh real name
looking at the map to get there looks like one rt goes through Canada do I need any thing special to go that way for next year I'm going to start planning now don't want to go another year looking at pics I want to be in them ;D
coxy, if you have no criminal record and a passport it's a very easy passage from one country to the other. if you don't have a passport other picture id still works at this point. Some truckers are crossing the border several times a week/day. If you have a criminal record you will get the slow go and that's no fun. just remember to answer questions with yes and no and nothing more. that's all they want, and more words just gives them more to think about. Come visit Canada!
Well I went and I have to say I'm glad I did. Great group of people, I didn't meet everyone in my short visit. Next year I will be setting more time aside for this.
Thank you Jeff and everyone else that helps put this together.
I also went for a short visit, my daughter and granddaughter flew in from colorado this weekend. The food rivals a catered wedding or better  Got to meet more michigan folks too. I am going to start using buckstop deer scent now too. Deerhunter owns that company. Really nice job everyone and it was good to see everyone again.
If you come through Canada you can stop and see Niagara Falls. It worth the time if you haven't been there. It's a pretty awesome thing to see at least once.

Furby,upper left!! ;D
Good crowd. Well done, Jeff.
Mrs. Beaver, the Kids, and I had a fantastic time at the pig roast. Was so good to see everyone again. The food was great as always, the hospitality is second to none. Thank you Jeff, Tammy, your entire family and anyone else that had a hand in making this a yearly reality.
Also special thanks to woodmizer, stihl, and logrite for the door prizes. I cant believe a won a $400 wood moisture meter and my daughter won a box of woodmizer saw blades ( which she quickly and willingly sold me for about a years supply of diaper money). Mrs Beaver won a stihl mug, and my son i law won a hookaroon that i know will get a lot of use when him and i are cutting wood and moving logs.
Thanks agian to everyone. We had a great time and already have it on the calendar for next year.
Did y'all know that was me in the goat Bear suit? :D
There was no bear suit. That was the real Smokey
WOW what a crowd is right 8) 8) glad it was a great turn out even know I wasn't there I still want to thank every one that was involved in making it all happen was this the biggest turn out of people
Looks like a great turnout!!!!! hope everyone had fun!! ;D ;D

I don't have a record that I know of :) can you get through with just a photo id drivers license I went to pembrook (I think that's how you say it) about 10-12 years ago some family has camps up that way cant remember the name of the lake it was great fishing what I remember of it didn't have a sober breath for 6 days :D and I can tell ya the molsen beer in Canada has a way bigger punch than it does in the states the last few days I got in the triple x stuff what a hang on I had :D :D
Then you should be good to go coxy. My son went through Kingsgate, ID a month or more ago and his passport was expired but they told him he was ok on his photo id as it was ground travel. I've used my passport for the last several years so I haven't had any issues.
This year's pigroast was tremendous. The feeling of fellowship and friendship was so strong I hated for it to end and to see friends depart for home. As it happens every year, the days before the roast I wonder why Tammy and I put ourselves through all this work, and today, I sit here resting for a few, with the strongest yearning ever to do it again. We love our Forestry Forum family.

We love our Forestry Forum family.
This is what its all about Boss. :)
Thank you Jeff and Tammy and everyone who helped put the party together. Thank you to the sponsor's and member's for the prize donations.
It was great to meet larger than life FF hero's. Made many new friends.
Can't wait for the next one.

REALLY you had to show the dang pig just after I ate now I'm hungry again the ice cream just went out the window ;D
It's hard to imagine that any year could exceed any of the previous year's Pig Roast, but this one was truly a winner. PatD could not make the trip, so Marty and I decided that we would go and what a trip it was. A total of 2247 miles and some long hours driving but the Pig Roast is a true treasure at the end of Jeff & Tammy's Rainbow. Thank You Jeff & Tammy, and also Thank You Wood-Mizer, Logrite, and Stihl.

And finally the Pig is ready for a Roasting.

customsawyer and Jeff unwrap the wire. I have no Pig Disassembly pictures because I had my hands full of pig. Maybe someone has a "Pig Pulling" picture. Maybe??

I got to choose from this "Howdy" collection for my door prize.
I chose this and PatD was happy. Thank You Howdy for your door prize contribution.

And Yes, there "was" Blueberry Wafflecone Ice Cream with a side of Buttered Pecan.
Marty and I had to leave fairly early Saturday afternoon in order to make the trip home so he could go to work tomorrow morning. We spent last night in Elizabethtown, KY. We stopped for gas and when I looked down I happen to see something glitter. Yup, a Precious Stone and Very Valuable!!!
Now don't even try to bust my bubble and say bad things about it's value. If folks can think that their Very Valuable Walnut Tree is priceless, then why can't I think that this gem is also worth millions, thousands, ah man, give me a break, surely hundreds. Heck if I don't get it appraised it will never loose value. ;D
Thanks for the pics ! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
I've been told that there was a tripod and video camera set up recording the door prize games. I hope we get to see!
Lynn you got to be the luckiest Hound Dog I know. Now you have 300 cant hooks and a
diamond worth $3000.00. :D :D :D
Kevin&Tamiam will never make any money from you if you keep winning all there tools ;D
Jeff,
Thanks for all the effort that you put into the pig roast. Wife and I are up in northern Mich site seeing heading back thru Harrison on Tuesday. Glad to meet all the folks
Ron
Whatdayoumean Luck?? :o I was wearing an original "Timber Buyers Network" Hat, Orange Shirt, Logrite T Shirt, plus my Lucky Underwear. When the stars align, you can't loose.
Now that hat:
Timber Buyers Network was Jeff's original idea for a "forum" and was the predecessor to the Forestry Forum. Jeff may know how many of those hats are in existence?
Sadly I missed taking a picture of the "Andy White Memorial Benches".
Be assured that these benches were well used and were actually moved to more prominent positions several times during the two day event. I told several people as did Jeff and Marty about Andy and the significance of those two benches. Many members remembered Andy and valued his contributions to the Forestry Forum. Andy's warm heart will continue to be remembered through the thoughtfulness of Nancy and the generosity of the FF members that made these Memorial Benches possible.
Thanks Jeff for hosting us! My family absolutely loved it! The boys are still talking about "the bear that was so nice!" :D It was great getting to meet so many amazing people and listening to their awesome stories. You do a fabulous job my friend!

Had a great time as always. Thanks to all that put this on and contribute. The only thing wrong with these things is they are to short. I wish I had more time to visit.
Looks like a wonderful time. Great weather, great food, great setting, great friends....Maybe next year. Very nicely done Mr. And Mrs Jeff....it is obvious you put your hearts and souls into making this such a great weekend for everyone....cheers!
Linda and I had a great time.
Especially seeing all the old and new acquaintances.
Kudos to Jeff, Tammi, their family, and friends who made the roast possible.
Thoroughly enjoyed our short visit to Harrison.
Hope everyone made it home OK.
Looking forward to next year Lord willin
We had so much fun! I just want to thank Jeff, Tammy, and all the friends and family for all the work to put on such an event. I also want to thank all the great sponsors and donors. It was great to see all our old friends and make new ones. I never made it around to meet everyone.
The first person to point this out to me was Andy White. All the members here are all the same. Hard working, generous, kind, caring, all around great people.
We are definitely planning to attend the next one and so should you.

coxy, if you have no criminal record and a passport it's a very easy passage from one country to the other. if you don't have a passport other picture id still works at this point. Some truckers are crossing the border several times a week/day. If you have a criminal record you will get the slow go and that's no fun. just remember to answer questions with yes and no and nothing more. that's all they want, and more words just gives them more to think about. Come visit Canada!
It is best to have either a passport or an enhanced drivers license.
In the past 10 weeks I have been in and out of Canada a few times and the enhanced license is what I used.

I did, as I reserved a campground site for next year.

Thank you to Jeff and Tammy for hosting such a wonderful event. Thank you to all the sponsors and donors for all of the great door prizes. It was great to meet new friends and see old friends and eat some great food along the way. I already can't wait for next years pig roast.
Dang! Just missed it! My mom was a Yupper, so we visited upper peninsula last summer with my kids. Just loved it up there.
Maybe next year.
In the way of an intro, I am a former LT40 Super operator 12 years ago. Life got in the way and I became saw-less. :( Back to it now, so glad for the therapy!
Welcome to The Forestry Forum, PA_Walnut!
This is the bird house that I told my wife not to choose as her door prize since we were in a small two seat rag top . We got it in the car by putting some of our clothes in the storage place for the top when it is down. If the bird house was one half inch taller, we would have had to tie it on top of the trunk lid. It was a nice prize donated by Log-gistics, but it was just almost too large for our car. When we got it home, of course, my wife wanted it painted

Cheerful colors!
Thank you Jeff, Tammy and your entire family for another great day. Looking forward to next year.
