Poplar logs and what else

These logs were listed as oak.  Clearly some of them are poplar.  I'm not sure the others are oak.  Can anyone ID them?  Danny from heaven?

I was thinking that the three with brown heart might be hickory.

The second log in on the bottom and the second one in on top with the pinkish heartwood and little sapwood is most likely oak. A close up of the end grain and where the bark is peeled off would tell for sure. Also oak has a distinct smell if you sniff the fresh cut end.

I agree with Jeff's assessment. The reddish ones should have real distinct rays without lenses or squinting.

And yes to the 3 hickory. Should see the pores in the rings easily, but not distinctive rays unless magnified.

I'm gonna go look at those logs next week.  I've never bought any poplar, because it doesnt really grow around here.  I've seen it as ornamental in yards.  These logs look pretty nice.  Does anyone know the going price for poplar.

Hopefully the poplar are fairly fresh and not all stained in the heat. If they stain easy like yellow birch, you'll have lots of spelt wood as they dry.

Check with the closest mills for an average saw log price. The price will vary by area.
