My echo trimmer that came off the mayflower needed a carb. I tried to buy one,but could not find one to fit. This trimmer I had for at least 35 years, maybe closer to 40. I used that poor thing a lot. Very common to use it 2-3 hours at a time. I used it to tame The Farm. I would cut knee high grass with that trimmer.
The only repair I had to do was a recoil.
If I could get a chainsaw to last that long with just a recoil repair, I would be happy. Never had that trimmer in the shop except for the recoil.
I bought a new echo trimmer today. It's a SRM-2320T. Just about $300. I did not get a deal on it. But what a unit. it's has a 21.2cc motor. Suppose to be just about the same size of my other one.
But this has a 2-1 gear on the head. Has much more power then my old one. I used it for about 2 hours on thick grass around a stone wall that had not been done all year. really did a great job. My other trimmer I would have to take a couple cuts to knock the high grass down. The long grass would wind around the head and stall it. It did happen a few times, but I could pull the head away from the grass and hold it wide open and it would clear the grass out. My other one I would have to stop and pull the grass out by hand.
The new one did bother some on the long grass but only a few times.
Then it has a speed feed 400 head. That is very nice to put string in to. Just line up the arrows and put the line in and wind it up and I am good to go again. I had to put string into 3 times tonight. That was about 2 hours of use around a stone wall.
No need to take the spool out.
