Paying it forward

I don't do much hunting now days but I did end up in the woods over the weekend. My area host a handicap hunt that brings in guys from all over. Well I got asked to take one of the guys out and see what we could get. Keep in mind that lots of these guys were not really hunters in the past, but are trying it for the first time. I met up with my hunter and took him out to the woods Saturday morning. He saw some does and a nice buck but the buck never stopped walking and the hunter didn't know what to do. I explained that if he grunted or coughed then the deer would have stopped long enough for him to take a shot, if he was holding the scope on him. He didn't see anything Saturday evening, so I took him out again on Sunday morning. He didn't see the buck but he did get himself a nice doe. He hit a little bit back of where he should, so she didn't leave any blood trail. We got lucky and found her after about 30 min. of looking. Put a smile on his face for his drive home.

I've decided to share a funny part of this hunt.
There was another guide there with me, as we were supposed to have two hunters. The other hunter's car broke down so we just had the one. Well as I was telling the hunter to just cough or make some other noise to get the buck to stop. The other guide suggest that he can just kick the blind and that will work. I'm looking at a guy in a wheel chair and zero use of his legs. Trying my very best to keep a strait face and just let it pass. Sure enough when I offered another suggestion, the other guide said a second time that he could just kick the blind. At this point I look at him and ask which wheel he thought he should use to kick the blind with. We all got a good laugh out of it.

We've had wounded warriors hunt on our place.  A friend of ours takes them goose hunting and then I set up a turkey hunt for one.

It's nice to be able to give anyone who struggles with day to day living a little bit of outdoor time and a different challenge.
