Title: Antique Tractor Pull 2006
Post by: Roxie on October 08, 2006, 02:37:03 PM
Cowboy Bob is out there getting em ready to pull!
He used a whole can of Crisco for the tires again..... ::)
He coats the tires with Crisco then paints the rims and the paint on the tires washes off.

We have a very diversified line up this year...we'll start with my favorite,
the 1953 John Deere 50:

Here is the 1959 Case 800:

And the smallest and oldest, the 1947 Massey Harris 101 Jr.

The pull is this Saturday at the Cochranville Fall Harvest Days.
I can't wait to see which one does the best in it's class.

 8) 8)  Well those are just dandy!  I can imagine all the hard work you two have put into them. I bet your arms are tired now from all the polishing. Next week at the tractor pull, I bet you have the best looking tracotrs there!

Good luck!

That brings back some kind of fond memories Roxie. The tractor I learned to plow on was a spittin image of your JD. The not so fond part was no shade and no cab....boy am I ever spoiled now. :D

Good luck at the tractor pull, get some action shots if you can.

I grew up on a JD50 also. I remember the time that I burned a hole in the butt of a brand new pair of pants, the seat wasn't in very great shape and the battery box is under it. ::)

my dad has an oliver 60, which really I guess would be my brothers, sorta.  He also has a Massy-Harris 33 (I think??)

all I know is the steering on the massy-harris was a "thumbs-out" model!  it would spin that steering wheel like a million miles an hour if the front dropped into a furrow.

I like those old tricycle tractors, I guess a lot of people have been killed on them, it's a shame :(

we never did the tractor pull thing, dad didn't like fixing broke stuff, and I never quit until something breaks :D

breederman, that is funny. Lucky your jeans were all that burned :D :D :D Some memories for me here. I did a lot of seat time on 8N's and Massey 35's hauling bales. My fingers still hurt thinking about it

The pull is over. Time to put them gas burners away. We dint do to bad.
The Massey pulled ok but not pullin material. I think its agoina git traded
off for a notherin,  51 ft in the 4500 lb class dang thing wts. in at 3600
lbs.
As for Poppin John she still needs some work. Has a few buggs in her,
has a big heart, she wts in at 5600 doesnt like to pull with her big brother
or those red cousins .
The Case ... There a hoss that can tear up some track spins out has the power
needs more traction. She wts in at 7790 dint know she had fluild in tires to it gave
me a bath when i let  some air outofher. She spun ot at 106 ft . We dint bring any dust collector home but we had a lof of fun. No fires no rain storms like the last pull.
Rox took this year off said to git rested up to beat my a... next year, we ll see.
All i cin say is GET ER DONE WOMAN ... Aint it so.

Bob, you sharpening those tires on the case?  You can either get a stronger tractor to pull it backwards (on pavement) and let the tires spin on the case, or you can get a power planer for wood and plane the lugs until they are sharp.  You gotta get the hard and rounded edges off the tires or they just won't pull right.
You're gonna have a hard time getting that deere to compete.  I'm assuming you are trying to get the H's.  They are tough.  You wanna beat the farmalls then you gotta show with a 5 star Mi-Mo.  They'll get scared.  A really good 4 star will get them as well, but it's gotta be set up for pulling.

Thanks for the tip, but our rulebook states that cut tires are a no no.
The guys around here look at the tires soon as you get on the
scales. I need to add more wt. Them old Cases the more wt. ya
got the better shell pull.

We had a wonderful time, and I ain't chicken!   :D :D  The tractors that we took had never been in a pull before and I didn't have any time in the field on them.  Take the Case 800, for example....it's got "Case-O-Matic" which is a gas booster under the accelerator on the steering wheel....I've only played with that twice, and never under a load.  It's a handy little feature, but I like playing working with them for a while.   :)

I'll be pulling next year, so git outta the way!   8)

Sounds like a good time Bob. We've got a neighbor that still farms with a JD like you folks have pictured. He'd probably let you come out and practice this fall Roxie. I should warn you though he's a little rough around the edges even by Iowa standards.  ;D
