Help identifying some wood I think it's some kind of walnut

I cut this tree down in the woods behind my house in Ocala FL, I've had one person tell me it's black walnut but it's really light grey color almost like butternut, it was dead when I cut it down so it didn't have any leaves on it

Looks like persimmon from the bark and wood but I don't know about the end grain.

Persimmon was my first thought too.

I figured black gum.  No idea what persimmon looks like.

100% persimmon.  See the black at the knots?  Persimmon is in the ebony family.  Those black knot centers are diagnostic for persimmon.  Good call, Bluthum.
