One time I apparently did not get my motor side blade guard tight enough. It came loose enough to get in the band, it is quite impressive how far a band can slice into the metal, also pretty impressive how far it can throw the guard from the mill. I would not have had anybody standing in that things path.

Yes, that's one thing I've been doing the last couple of days is building 2 new guards out of 3/4" plywood.  The old plywood guards are starting to de-laminate pretty badly, and are showing  their age rather seriously.

Wait until you hit the log dog, or the supports and sparks fly. Immediate reaction is WOW Fourth Of July, then you assess the damage (blade, support, alignment, belts, etc.). The fun never ends but as long as Saw Dust Is Flying it's a good day in my book.  Worse case scenario the wood pile gets higher and you send the blades in to get resharped.

Happy holidays to the newbies and the seasoned vets...once the weather breaks we get to start giving trees a second life.
