I am looking for ideas to mount my chainsaw to the side of my winch ( or tractor) when I head out to the woods. I have been putting the saw and related gear in my front bucket but that ties up the bucket when I see something that needs moving ie; rock, stump, dead tree.
Have a 'bota 4330 and Farmi winch.
How do you carry your saw and related gear to the woods?

when i was using the old NAA ford of ours i took a 4x4 block about 12" long and sloted it with the saw for the blade. bolted it to the fender and held it with a bungie cord. not pretty but worked  ;D

I thought the Farmi winch came with the brackets for the chain saw to set in. Maybe that is on the bigger model 501 only.

Anyway, I have seen similar brackets on the loader uprights, which are the type I am planning on mounting for my saw. I sometimes am too forgetful when I am using the bucket for chains and things. I see something that needs 'moved' with the bucket, and momentarily forget that the bucket is already being used.  :o :-[

The best thing I've come up with so far is a small Knack job box I carry in the FEL and when I get to my work area I just set it off. I've got the 501 with the chainsaw bracket, and that works ok now that I put another bracket down lower, but there's the gas, oil, and the bucket with wedges, tools, spare chain etc. It gives me room for a snatch block and a spare saw if I need to take them. I too was always forgetting I had stuff in the loader.  I never broke a saw but I did run over the blade of one once. I can see the top of the box, and it hasn't happened since. I even had a vise mounted to it for a while. When I'm dragging logs out I just stick a saw in the 501 bracket to cut the tree length logs up when I get them to the landing. If it gets late and I don't feel like going back in, I just leave the job box in the woods overnight. Another little thing I do with the Farmi to make life easier is tow a 4 wheeler behind it. Wrap a chain around both sides of the front rack and put it in the slots on the Farmi and it will follow you just fine. Sometimes you just need a quick trip out to get a tool or for lunch, or to get the truck with the dump trailer or something. As long as I'm running my yap, something else I just did, following the advice on another thread here was built a ball mount to attach to the back of the Farmi. Works good, just will take a little practice to know where the ball is when backing up to a trailer. So that gives another option too, hooking a small utility trailer to the back of the winch to get in the woods with my stuff. Wow, long post, I hope I didn't babble too much.

Thanks to all. I had seen the farmi mount before but had forgotten about it. That looks fairly easy to make. Some other great ideas too!
My worst "forgot what was in the bucket" so far was plowing the drive with a 20 foot tow cain in the bucket. Had to dig down about 3 feet to retreave it!

My tractor (Landini 7860) has flat top fenders, I built one wooden box for one fender, this holds one saw and my gloves and water bottle and  wedges...

On the other fender I have two of the big plastic milk carton cases, these hold the gas and oil, saw tool bag and other assorted junk...plus the spare saw...

I put shower mats on the fenders under the boxes and only use bungi cords to hold them on...
Chains, snatch block, wrecking/ pinch bar and tree bar are on the winch....

I load and unload everything each day due to 2 legged animals on the loose at night...

Several companies make scabards that could work, I have seen some in back of truck and on atv's.

Moosehunter,
You can't really see the detail from this picture but I put short 6" tapered springs mounted with welded on bolts.  The taper in the springs have holes perfect for 1/4" bolts on each end.  I bought these from HomeDepot.  The bar with cover slides behind the spring and is held tight against the cage.

For general woods-work tools, I mounted military-ammo boxes to the fenders.  The boxes are held in place with black-rubber bungies and welded on square guides.  To remove the box I pull off the bungie and lift the box out of the guides.

I hope this is of some help.... ???

Let us know what you end up using for the chainsaw holder...as these things are very important to us tool freaks  :D.

That ATV mount is a good idea but the bar and chain takes a beating from brush and rocks. Also, one saw I know of  had the bar pad snapped out of the crankcase.

I built a wooden box about 3' long x 18"wide and only 4"deep that sets on my hood. I knotched one end to fit around the steering column and drilled one hole that allows the breather pass thru which holds it all in place. When I need to get under the hood it takes about 2-3 minutes to unload and take it off. In the box I set my chainsaw, saw gas, chains, felling wedges and sometimes some other things depending on what I am doing. Works great. I'll try to get a pic and post it sometime. 8)
