I think I just wrapped up my last job for the year (truck's going into the shop for head gaskets, be at least a week)... Reflecting back, I spent more money on blades than I anticipated. I want to adjust my pricing to recoup this cost.

I currently charge $50/hr, and when I get on site and setup the mill, the first thing I do (in front of customer so they can see, I point it out to them), is throw a fresh blade on straight out the box. It's kind of a sales-tool: Look, I'm putting on a brand new blade just for you!Read More

Hello everyone!

I'm currently helping a friend restore/return to working condition a very large old sawmill.
I wish I had more info, as soon as I get more I'll update the post.
I believe it's a 1945 mill, powered by a 1950s D8 engine.
It ran 5 years ago so the owner is confident it won't take much to get running again. After removing the magneto and drying it out, we have spark. Hopefully tomorrow we will see if it wants to fire up. Read More

Have 50 Acres of slash damaged by Helene (S. GA). Looking for advice on best approach to salvage as much as possible. 40 acres lightly damaged and 10 acres moderately damaged. Currently cutting and stacking for milling. How long will the logs keep for milling? Is there any way to preserve or protect the logs from insects? Best spray? Have found a few trees with beetle evidence. Is the best approach to get all trees on ground cut and stacked then do leaners and debris cleanup?Read More

Good Day,

Got an issue which I can seem to find the problem.

The harvester is cutting wood with no big issues but having a problem with the chain spinning back ward when the saw arm retracts. It seems as if when the saw arm starts to retract the oil is flowing also in revers in the saw motor.Read More
