Mr Weatherman said yesterday that there was a slight chance for blizzard like conditions for most of Saskatchewan's regions.  Guess he had a bit of a clue because this is what we got today.
The first one is out the kitchen doorway.

I got brave and went out to see how bad it really was.  "God hates a coward," as they say. This next one is just leaving down the drive towards our neighbors.  Lloyd's house is only about 75 yards from where I took the picture from.

I took a picture of the doorway to the garage that I used for comparing the storm later in the day.  It's kinda funny how I use the doorway to tell the weather.  The doorway always seems to blow in with snow.  The more the snow the worse the weather.  This one was around 9 am this morning.

Here it is at 4pm.

The wind has seemed to have died down a little now , but is dumping a bunch more snow.

I had to rescue our little dog this morning also.  Her doghouse literally blew full of snow.  I had to shovel out the snow and give her a new bale of hay to lay on.  I also banked her house with snow and leaned my hommade patio table to block the doorway some.  Yup, I was definately in the doghouse today and it wasn't fun.

There's some kind of winter carnival suppose to take place in Fredericton. The committee or whoever in charge has secured $50,000 from the government to truck in snow for it.  ::) They got a long way to go get that snow. I don't think the $50,000 is going to be enough. :D :D

Well, I used to love the winter and snow, Back country skiing, winter camping, ice climbing. Now my favorite winter weather is when the snow is rolling off the roof into the gutter and down the down spout.  ;D It is nice for awhile, but too much of my work is outside these days. Sure looks pretty though.

You guys should try it up here!  It's a cool -42c with a nice breeze to bring the wind chill down to about -55c.  Only nice thing is we only have 5 more months to go till we have our 4 months of spring, summer and fall combined.   But at least the sun will be out 24 hours instead of the moon being out that long.   8)

Always felt snow was nice when you could stay inside and watch it and only go outside when you wanted to. But when you have to get out in it and mess with vehicles whether you want to or not, then it is something else. No, I have not lived here in MS all my life.

Gotta love those blizzards!

I just pulled a double shift 'cause none of the other guys could get to work. Most of them drive in from the country, I walk 6 blocks - and it was a long, tough 6 today.

We are all lucky that we didn't get the weather that Dawson Creek, BC got.  From what I hear you can buy a snow shovel, snow blower, or anything else to move snow.  I forget just how much snow they got but we didn't get nothing compared to them.

Well, sounds like adventure is being had up North. I tell my wife this year is a Tennessee winter in Pennsylvania, most of the time above the 30's and some days a little rain, but alot of sunshine too. Last night was 18 degrees, no big deal for you northerners. I would need one of those "artic bubbles" you see on the Learning Channel to work outside my shop. BBRRRRR.

Real bad news for some folks ; a couple got stuck 1/2 mile from their house and tried to walk the rest of the way during the worst of the blizzard. They both froze to death 200 yards from the house.

Sad to say people have forgotten how to "be prepared".

Young dogs got to live and learn too.  Got a dog prob here I gotta try and solve.  Long story short the dog owner wants me to pepper the dog butt full of buckshot the next time it's here tearing into garbage bags.  Can't even put a bag out on the doorstep for a few minutes till you're ready to go outside and the neat-o dogs are into it.  Things must smell it for a 1/4 mile away.

Ahh just wait Swamp.  I sent some real nice weather your way..............

SwampDonkey

I always take gloves and hat and dress warm enough when I drive someplace. Some folks dress for fall weather when they strike out in them storms. No wonder some freeze when they have to walk. Take and walk a mile with a north wind in your face, even on a sunny day and 0 F there is always a slight breeze here and that's dang cold. In the winter I drive up to the woods to walk out of the wind and I don't need to dress for the north pole.

With my wife being pregnant with twins we have to go to the city for doctor visits. Only problem is that It is in Whitehorse. Thats about 360 miles away. Up here the weather can turn in an instant.
When we head out I look like I'm heading on an expedition into the great unknown. :D  I always take food, water, extra winter gear, 2 spare tires, chains, 2-5gal. cans of fuel, matches, snow shoes, chain saw, flares, first aid kit, and anything else that happens to pop into my head we might need.  like I said an expedition.
My wife always laughed at me until our last trip when we had a very large moose change our direction of travel from south to west in an instant. She was very glad I had brought the winch along to pull us out, and the 2 spare tires to replace the ones on the front of the truck. Not a fun thing to do at -35c.
I always believe that it is easier to load and unload all the gear than to leave it behind and be very sorry later.
I never met a tree I didn't like!!

Coon

fuzzybear, I would be doing just the same in your neck of the woods.  Heck even around here I always have two spare tires, jackall, some blocking, extra food, matches, the saw, an axe, etc.  The weather can change in an instant here as well.  I have seen it change drastically while driving home from the farm.  Was clear as a bell when I left the farm and by the time I drove 3 of the 6 or 7 miles it was a complete whiteout.  We ended up stuck in the middle of the road but had bush along the road that blocked the wind.  No cell service so we found some firewood and lighted a fire and took turns shoveling out the 1/2 ton.  Only took us 5 hours or so to get out and back home.

Our cold snap is warming a bit already.  The night before last we had temps that went down to -37C before the wind.  With the wind it was down to about -50C.  Warmed up through the night last night.  Was -27C at 11 pm last night and by 9 am this morning it was up to -17C with a slight wind.  They say it is supposed to be up to -8C by Monday.  Guess I will be able to get more firewood cut and work on Critter.  Oh yeah and snow shovelled.

Well its not "bad weather" cause we need the rain, but we have sure had alot of it today.  This is the road over our pond dam heading up to the house.  If it keeps up much longer we won't be getting out to the road for a day or two.

Is that a dirt dam?   What kind of damage does the overflow cause?

Tom what we have around here is iron ore gravel.  So, the dam is dirt if you call iron ore dirt.  I paved the road with asphalt three years ago and since then we have not had much rain.  It has been raining all night and is really coming down right now.  We may lose the asphalt but I think the dam will survive.  This is a big deal to us getting all the rain. We have never had any problems with our well water and it is just as good as it gets quality wise, but I was starting to worry about the water table droping to the point of having problems.  If we lose the road, well darn.  If we lose the dam as well, I lose all my big fish and the dirt work will be big $, but we do need the moisture.

Coon

Us southerners got a bit more, we had nearly 5" last night.  At about 2 am the whole roof unloaded and woke me up.  It hit almost 15 ft away from the building.  And the building inspector was worried about snow load!

I'm worried about this cold that is coming.  I've got no vapor barrier on and a mess of air leaks at my peak and around all my windows (site built).  It can go from 85 F to freezing in about 20 hours once the fire dies out and thats when its warm out.

Here is some winter pics around my house.  I did drive in the blizzard last week that reaped havoc on Alberta.  From Edmonton to Peace River I counted 45 people off the road, 11 roll-overs, however did not have my camera with me.  We have more snow up here this year already than we did all last winter put together.  Anyhow, enjoy the pics.
