Just looking at the triangle parts makes me think the 1/2 moon is both quicker and easier.  I have a half moon on mine.  Once you get the log flipped up onto it gravity does the rest of the work, shoving the log back onto the carriage. I have mine set tight @ 1/2" clearance from the carriage. Imho I would mount a 1/2 moon and if you have hydraulics available you could use two cylinders - one small one to flip the half moon up and another to tip the log onto it.  The hardest part for me was finding suitable wheels.

Do you have a picture of your set up to make sure I am thinking the same as you?  I am thinking a little down the road when I make new ells out of steel and put hydraulic dogs on it.  I could always turn the log by hand and use hydraulics to dog the logs.

I hope to have pictures soon but trying to get them from the camera to the computer seems to be the issue.

Thanks guys for all the help!
