I'm looking at a 193t. Does it have the same motor as the ms170? I have read some bad reviews on the 170.

The MS170 is a good saw for it's intended purpose, a lightweight unit for the occasional user. Most complaintts come from people who are not familiar with saws and expect too much or don't properly maintain their tools. Any saw will give grief if it sits unused for an extended period of time with old fuel.
old age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm

My 017 always idled way too fast , ran for years [and still does] and both plastic handles broke. The 170 starts hard and sometimes runs lean. What I like is the 43 size chain on these mini saws because it drops in the kerf my sawmill cuts. Always wondered how large a saw/bar could be used with this narrow kerf  chain.

MS170 is an 1130 series engine . MS193T is an 1137 series engine. Not the same.

Thanks, can you tell me the difference between them. Did a search but found nothing.

MS 193T is a pro saw. MS 170 is an occasional use, homeowner saw. Engines are both clamshells but 193 will be heavier duty. The intake, transfers, timing will be different. One saw is a top handle, one a rear handle. 193 is horizontal, 170 is vertical.
