Red Good,  you set this one as intended I am sure... I rather push the Ford than drive the Chevy. Actually, that pushing for the birds, I just call the hook.

I guess Chevrolet is too long for an acronym.

A friend of mine once said that "he would rather walk to town carrying a Ford hubcap that to drive a Chevy".  He lived closer to town than I did.   ;D

I hope nobody gets too worked up over this thread. It's all in good fun. :)

Has anybody got an acronym for Dodge? I haven't heard one yet.

I've heard a few, and seen a few pictures of dodge acronyms. Most not exactly FF appropriate, we'll leave it at that  :-X

The main reason I bought a Chevy is because the bed rails are lower than on the competitors, so it's easy to get stuff on the bed floor.  The others, especially the bigger trucks, you've gotta be 6'6" or better (I'm 6'2"), carry a stepladder, or climb in from the back ....  Overall, though, they've all done a fantastic job in improving quality, rust-proofing, drivetrain performance and durability, mileage, etc in my humble opinion.  Now it's more about the little things.

On the one ton dual wheel trucks Chevys and Rams bed rails are higher than Fords which for 5th wheel towing is a problem. My F450 rails are about the lowest of the super duty pickups.

Ive always ran four wheel drive fords starting in 1959 with a F250 it had a six 300 ford engine my 2001 is a F350 the 7.3 is a excellent motor but I have replaced about everything else and a few times twice. I don't like the electronics give me the old stuff,I can fix most of it. My dad was a Chev fan / Buick and was hard core about it I suppose thats why Ive never owned one  ::).

Dad had a 1983 (I think) 250 with the 300 6.  The engine never had a hint of problems.  Unfortunately, the rest of the truck rotted away around it.  I did the maintenance on it by climbing into the roomy engine bay.  This was before I was a great big fat guy... :)  Was almost as good as having it out on an engine stand.

Never had a cracked head on any of my GM vehicles, but had a 1992 Explorer that cracked the heads, ford gave me 1000 toward a 95 Eddie bauer 302 extended cab. Engine was bullet proof but I got to know my service managers on a first name basis as it was in the shop a lot. When the oil pan rusted thru I swapped for another Chev.
I think maybe the 42 second thing is that diehard ford owners have to swap a lot.

The "big three" automakers are in the business of selling pickup trucks. They all sell a TON of them. Crewcab 4x4 pickups are the soccer mom SUV's of today. Seriously, who owns a supercab 4 door pickup with a 5.5 foot bed, all leather and chrome and power everything, and uses it for work?
When I was looking for a newish pickup this summer\fall, I wanted a regular cab, 8' bed, stripped down package. A less expensive work truck. Guess what, none of the dealers around had any of them! I searched Ford's certified pre-owned website for a XL (base) reg. cab F150, 4x4. Not a single one within 500 miles of my home address. The local dealer has inventory of approx. 50 F150's. Only 1 new regular cab XL. 3 reg. cabs in stock. Out of 50 vehicles! Majority are extended cab, super cab, and XLT or higher trim levels. And pricey! Wow!
I ended up getting an XLT reg. cab 8' bed F150 with the ecoboost engine. It's a 2012, and the cost was the same or less than trucks that were older, more miles, no warranty, older engine\trans packages. All because it's a reg. cab.

Ford, GM, Dodge\RAM sell alot of pickups, and they make alot of money off them.

Both co-workers bought new trucks in 2010 crew cabs, LTX ( or whatever the top is) leather, satellite radio-onstar and on and on.  Don't even want to know what they payed but I built a work truck online and it came to over $65k ( as if I would ever buy new )  These are guys that use a trailer behind the truck to take a few bags of garbage to the dump ( empty box but has the fancy cover to keep snow out)  Neither has kids at home so I don't know why the crew cabs. They bought these trucks because they needed a truck  all they really needed was a SUV or such

I bought a truck because I need to move feed, wood, building supplies, machine parts etc.  It's also an extended cab due to the kids.  I keep telling them they just tried to buy status.

I bought a new Dodge in 1980. After 4 years someone asked me how I liked the Dodge.  I said 50 thousand miles and no original parts. ;D Even had to replace the rear end on the Dang thing. :D

I gotta give Ford credit were credit is do.  They didn't take any government bail outs like GM , and Chrysler.   But I defied the big 3 and got a Toyota Tundra and I love it. 8)

The great thing about Dodge ... who'da thunk you could afford to drive one of them fancy Fiats?

I'm sure the Italians appreciate whatever American dollars we're not sending to China.
