I'm looking at a JCB 214 w/o cab. It has approx 3500 hrs on it and looks to be around a 1998 series-III model. It is 4wd. Any ideas what the pricing on that should be?

Thanks, Jim

Rex,

Take a look here and maybe you can get an idea.

http://www.equipmenttraderonline.com/

or here

http://www.enlow66.com/index.html

look under construction equipment on the Enlow site.
Give them a call and one of the guys will take the time to visit. They sell 300 to 400 tractors each month and have a good idea what things are worth.

Hope this helps.

I HAVE A JOHN DEERE 310SE EXTEND HOE.  IT IS A 1999 WITH 850 HOURS ON IT.  THEY SAY IT IS WORTH 35-40K.  HOPE THIS HELPS.  FOR THE RIGHT PRICE EVERYTHING IS FOR SALE!!
gonna do it again......

RacinRex

Thanks for the info guys. I found that the prices at this dealership are right in tune with the market. As a matter of fact. It's scary how similar all of the prices are. These guys must have a big club where they all get together and drink beer and come up with prices for used backhoes. They want 22,390 for it... Don't know if we'll get it or not but we sure have some uses for it.

I just bought a 99 case 580L for 15,800. It has 2800 hours on it. I don't feel bad about the price. I think i will be able to do what i need and then reseel it for pretty much what I paid. LeeB

 :D bet you can't. :D

I don't mean that you can't get the money.   I mean that you probably can't ....uh   won't sell it.   I thought the same thing 19 years ago and the thing is still sitting out there in the yard.  I don't know what I'd do without it.  :D :D

Even if I did try to find a buyer, I 'd have to fight the wife.  It's her wheelbarrow. :D

RacinRex

Lee,
In my research that is a super price for a 99 Case 580 I mean like 7 or 8 thousand on the cheap side.... where did you find it and are there more?

Tom,
Interesting observation. I find that my wife and my mom both find more uses for the 275 Massey Ferguson I have with a loader than anyone else in the neighborhood, which includes my dad and brother.

You got that right, Tom!  I've bought bunches of stuff at auctions with the idea of reselling them for profit.  Always end up keeping them. :-\ :D :D

Rex, I see older machines listed for $10k and under, all the time.  Most of them have a heap of work left in them.  If you're not planning on making it a full-time business, that may be the way to go.

Ya Tom,
Your're right. I never let a piece of equipment go.
My JD 410 is like my right arm. Not sure how we could make do without it.

RacinRex

Well, I must not be in the right circles. But with a full time job I never get to auctions :-( I'd love to. The uses would be split between my sawmill operation as it grows and loading trucks in my parents gravel pit. It would need to be a pretty good machine to be loading gravel with.

Your Dealer can probably make you a good deal out of his rental fleet.  They have those machines that aren't abused too bad that will still carry a warranty.  The money is more than an Auction but the machines have usually been maintained well.  You will find that the dealers are anxious to move some of their machines, regardless of hours, because of depreciation and floor planning.  It pays to have an honest dealer and not some big city shyster too.  You want to find one that wants you back and not one that sees you as a One-Day-sale.   I think you know what I mean.

Frequent visits to the dealership will gain you a friend if there is one there to be had.  Don't be afraid of wasting their time, most have more time than they know what to do with anyway and would be sitting at a desk doodling if you weren't there.  Kick tires and admire paint, take your time.  You don't usually have to make a decision over-night. Take six months if you like.  Rentals that he can't sell will be sent to auction anyway. :D  The turn-over is usually pretty good.

Not trying to second-guess ya, but are you sure a backhoe is what you need?  Seems like a small articulated loader would be a better bet for those particular chores.  Would they be digging out the gravel with it, or just using it to load trucks?

Lots of Digging too. I have three jobs that I can think of off the top of my head where I would need the hoe. Articulated Wheel loader will come later if we make enough money with the hoe. It just seems more versitile in my little pea brain.

10-4. :)  That's what I figgered.  I want a backhoe, too, but I have free access to one, so I'll keep trying to resist the temptation to have my own.  ::)

Versatile mean's a lot, for sure.  The "can do" list for a backhoe is a pretty long one.

I got a new tree the other day, too.  Jeff won't give me any more, so I took my business elsewhere. ;D

I don't know if I can haul quite that much with my 3/4 ton truck... besides... less than one hour from my place up to yours with that hoe... and much quicker on the way back.... just stick it in Georgia Overdrive and git-r-done.

I think so, Tom.  Ta tell tha truth, I didn't look all that close.  He dropped the trailer off in the rain Sat. morning, and I got rained on twice before I got it unloaded. There's some 12' and 14', one 8' and a little short thing that I'll saw for blocking when I get around to it.  This guy has been real good to me, and I'm hoping he will be joining us here on the Forum soon. :) :)
