Ash storage question from the new kid on the block

i sprinkle my ashes out around my fruit trees. but it's pretty small scale, i only burn about a chord every winter in the wood burning stove. i'm so glad it doesn't stay cold long down here. but i do have beautiful cumquats, grapefruit & figs.

Since you live in PA and are near Penn State, you can send a soil sample to the Ag Dept. and they will test it for you for free. That way you will know if you should add ash to your gardens. Also, I'm sure if you google "Wood Ash Uses" you can find all sorts of things to use the ash for.

I always make sure to save my ashes if we are working in an area that has any hills.  Spread on woods roads they really do a good job of absorbing (?) sunlight which helps to melt snow and ice.  They also greatly improve traction around turning areas and slopes.  My forced air furnace leaves nothing behind but a fine ash and that seems to work perfect for me.
