What are the differences between a LT30 hydraulic and a LT40 hydraulic.  Would production betweeen the two be much different?  Thanks !!!!!!!

Hi Hogfarmer,

They are basically the same mill. The LT30 cuts up to 16' and a little bit, and the LT40 cuts 4' longer.  When you compare these mills, you need to know the year of manufacture, as the cutting width capability increased in 1986 (24" to 30") and again in late 1991 (30" to 36").....Brian

The LT30 is better for muddy winding roads behind a 4 wheel drive.

Because of the length restrictions, the LT30 will not produce 16' material as easily as the LT40.   The sole reason is that the LT 40 provides a larger target.

When using a mill to its maximum configuration, it becomes a chore to position the log such that the blade will have the room to enter and exit the log.  The LT40 proposes the same challenge when cutting 20' material as the LT30 does cutting 16' material.

If you were to be cutting 12' material, or smaller, you would probably see no difference.

Also, they will not cut 36" wide. The actual cutting width is about 26".

The width of cut may have more to do with the year of production.  I think the heads were always the same and the LT30 and LT40 pretty much mirrored one another except for length.

Footer is right that they won't cut boards 36" wide, but my LT30 will cut logs 36" wide.
You have to roll the log a little and cut slabs or boards off until you've got it down below 24" wide to fit between the guide arm roller and the bed dog.
Or block up over the bed dog and slide the cant over a little and you can cut 26" or so wide boards as long as the cant doesn't slide.
