Question on how/what to mill

Hello all.  I have just traded an unspecified amount of beef for my choice of trees.  I have a friend who just cleared some property, and according to him, he has 10 doug firs, 24-36" dia over 70ft long and a mill.  I'm going there this weekend to start milling this and getting it off his property, and am wondering what's the "cream" here.  I'm thinking we should cut my timbers out of the heartwood, (say 12x12) and use the rest for firewood, but taking out some more quartersawn beams around the heartwood as the size allows. 

Am I on the right track?
