  Hello,

Is there such a thing as a vacuum kiln that the wood is totally immersed in water then boiled dry from the inside out?

Also, I was told by a local mill here, that a rule of thumb measure for walnut drying is 1.5 lbs a board foot weight loss is about what needs to be achieved from fresh cut walnut to be dry enough to use. Is this correct?

 Thanks,

As far as the "wet vac" is concerned, perhaps somebody is confusing pressure treating with kiln drying.

As far as the walnut is concerned, 1.5 pounds per board foot is very close.

lumber has been boiled in oil to be dried
And
there is a patent for a process to place the lumber in a plastic bag under vacumm while the bag is immersed in heated water.  This provides heat through conduction
