Short tenon lengths.

How many instances have you guys ran into needing to shorten tenon lengths to less than 4" (3 7/8") ?

8x8 post with 1/2' gain square rule so 7.5"x7.5" and you have two either braces or common non load bearing ties coming into the same plane on opposite sides. No issue cutting clean through but 3.5" length green timbers is the limit length wise in my opinion before they hit years down the road when it all seasons..

Pin holes (7/8") still laid out 1.5" off the shoulder and drawbored..

Hardwoods..

Seem about right?
