Just got a new ( to me, actually old ) 038.  I've never worked on a chainsaw, but am no stranger to 2 stroke engines... MX racing alot and had great fun with nitro rc's ... even did some porting on them...

Anyway.. I'm going to ebay up and repair manual for this saw but here is my question......

Can I use the 038 mag or Super Cyl/Piston's in the standard 038?  I'm thinking yes, but should ask someone that knows. If I do will the stock carb have enough adjustment??  The manual may answer these questions, but I was considering geting both at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

You can try Cutters Choice ...http://www.cutterschoice.com/cgi-bin/store/cutters.cgi?cur=USD&html=technical_us

The 038 bore ranges from 48mm to 50mm depending on the model.

The 038M, AVMEQ, MAG and the AVMERQZ  bore is 52mm.

The stroke is the same on all models at 34mm.

Thanks for the info Kevin

Do I understand your post correctly .....

The bottom end is the same for all models of 038 ?? The top end can be from the any model?

Kevin

I would say the only difference is the bore diameter but check with a tech to be sure.

Hi
I just answered your question, at another place. LOL
On the 038 and the 038 Super, you can interchange the pistons and barrels.
The 038 Mag has a larger bolt pattern and it will not bolt on the two other cases.
