What is the difference in a 55 and a 55 rancher is there any thanks i am thinking bout getting one
any comments regarding thanks
my 365's are just too heavy to cut the 4 to 10 inch wood.
i am unsure of the difference if any, and i could be wrong but they stopped making the 55 last year or the one before. i bought one of the last 55's that i found. great small saw, i think they now call them 455's and they look bigger but it is just more plastic imo. good luck
The 55 and 55 Rancher are the same saw. It is one of my favourites, a very good choice for the farmer, rancher, and serious weekend warrior, and is still available here, at least for the near future. The 455 is completely new, designed for low emissions. It has more displacement, slightly more comfortable handles but is heavier and durability has yet to be proven. I am not impressed with it.
Rancher 55 is still pretty heavy, I'd be looking at a 346XP or a 350 if you want less wieght. Steve

The 55 is ported differently than the Rancher. The 55 is a highly regarded saw in the racer world, the Rancher isn't. Different combustion chambers as well, Rancher has lower compression. For everyday use, it really doesn't matter much. You will probably find Ranchers cheaper, but not necessarily.
A 55 series saw, 350, Stihl 024/026 family saws would all be excellent choices for that kind of work.

On a good scale my Rancher 55 wieghts 17# with gas, oil and a 20" bar and doesn't have much power. A good 50cc should be 15# or less fully loaded. My CS510 Echo wieghts just under 15# fully loader a cuts way faster than my Rancher. Like mentioned a 346xp, Stihl MS260 are good saws. a Husky 350 is nice and light just not built the best and won't have the best power. Dolmar 5100s cuts really good but wieght around 1# more. Steve
I've got a used 55 on the bench that was a victim of poorly mixed fuel. Now has a new jug and piston on it, need some carb work tomorrow to be 100%. Let me know if you are interested.

how much i have a 026 i traded to a guy and now he want 100 bucks for me to get it back i said yeah ok so i am interested thanks problem is with the deal i never got a thing in return lol and now he want me to give him 100 bucks he said he put a air cleaner in it wowee
4" to 10" wood, check out the 346XP NE (New Edition). This little saw has is 50cc, very light & nimble, and has a bunch of torque. It will spoil you. Something a bit larger? Then a 357XP or a 359.

I agree on the NE346xp, but the next step better be the MS361, and certainly not the 359........ ;) ;D
