on Craigslist. I have noticed an increase in the New England states. With all the paper mills that have closed this may be the reason. In many areas I am sure it is a rough time. When the paper mill near me closed it put many under. Soon there will be nothing made in America.

401K? I consider equipment an expense. An investment is supposed to appreciate, not depreciate.

Was on the milling side for a long long long time, and when the great boom was on before '08 I started to think "this is nuts.  too high.  too fast.  this market has to crash soon".

I got out while the gitin was good.

Trouble this round for everyone is that there wasn't really a good time since then.  It's been crappy since 08' and theres no way it'll get better anytime soon.  The fundamentals at so many levels (macro & micro economic indicators, ecological pressures, changes in technology etc. are all putting pressure on the wood biz like crazy.

Lean, mean, small and profitable seems to be the only real opportunity out there.  Bigger and faster just aint gonna cut it in the mid-term

Decades from now our kids will be cutting wood and griping.  Hopefully we have them prepared and ready to do it better than we did.

(my 2 cents....now that's 2 cents Canadian so it's really not worth jack squat with the dollar so low....  ::)   )
