THeres a few things that can cause  BER in squash and maters.     Irregular watering, will cause this and also  too much nitrogen will block the calcium.     But the main cause of BER in squash  is a  dry weather bacteria that  attaches to the blossom end.    I raise squash and a small commercial basis and went through a great deal to find its cause.     We just pull the sick ones and throw them in the rows to go back to the ground.     Ive had a little dealings with  Squash vine borer.     Just pull the affected plants and  burn them.     If you cant burn them  seal them in a bucket.    They can  cycle 4 times a season.     I have saved a plant by  stabbing the base with  a  tooth pick and killing the worm.

SVB  lays ist egs in the soli to.   If you break and till it destroys them the most part.   I have a friend that no tills  his and lost  90 percent to  svb.      You can also get a few  phermone traps to.
