" OK " I AM CONFUZZELED!!!! what i have is a 670 with a strong blue spark ,geting gas ,new plug and the saw will not start? i checked the spark arrester to make sure it was not blocked . so the question is it possible for a 2 stroke to fire like a 4 stroke at 180 degs out with the spark being blue and wonty start?????????

Any chance it might be flooded?

sablatnic

Have you tried priming it? About a spoonfull of gas into the airfilter manifold? Or it might be flooded.

Enough compression?

chucker

compression is strong with a pull of the rope , but i have to check to see if the lower case is full of gas yet????when i pull the starter rope the exaust dose not spew gas out the muffler so i dont think the case will be flooded.....

Is the plug wet?

About the ignition timing might be off. It is possible, since the flywheel is keyed to the crankshaft with a steel key, but I have never seen it happen. The magneto in the flywheel should pass the ignition coil about 20 degrees before the piston is at top dead center. (TDC). I don't know exactly how much before, but if that is the reason, it is very far off, and should be easily seen.
Probably flooded or dry. If the plug is wet, you could try pinching the fuel line, to keep more fuel from entering the engine. But take care not to cut it.

Best of luck. It is time to sleep where I live.

If it has compression and spark, then it's a fuel problem. The carb is the obvious first place to look, but before you do that I'd check the fuel filter/pickup, fuel line and impulse line. Gotta confirm that fuel is getting to the carb before we start tearing the carb apart.  ;)

chucker

ok .... new lines and filter, checked the impulse with no blockage? CARB HEY ????  plug was not wet but pulled the fuel line off and gas was squirting out the carb end of the line ... oh yea, gas in the throat of the carb and 1 pull it will start ...just wont stay running ????

When all it needed for maintaining the saw was a $5.00 dollar fuel filter at one time...

didnt say what it was for sure? it had to go through the tank filter, then the screen and then block the metering port?? so what ever it was it was worth the fix!!!!!

True... but put a different filter on it.  A lot of times a very old filter will disintegrate from the inside and that's where the crap that clogs the inlet screen comes in.

I had a Jonsereds 70E that I got for 20 bucks that had the same exact problem.  Guy couldn't get it to run, and was gonna hck it.  I gave a 20 and he let me have it.  Went home... checked out the rotted fuel filter, and knew that it was gonna have junk in the screen... yep... it  did.  Especially those older Jreds... the filter is a metal housing with a replaceble filter media... the media is what breaks apart after a long time...

So make sure you have a new modern style filter on that saw.  Or it will happen again.

Gary

been there done that with the original style filters ( stainless steel clip type)... now just use the full nylon type....

cut 7 big w.oaks and ash trees today withqa fine running saw... biggest w. oak was 28" at knee high and the ash was 26" at knee high .otherwise the rest averaged 16".  ended up with 2 cords of firewood and 3 cords of saw logs for the mill .so not to bad for a saw that i thought was dead ?? now its time to retune the carb .................

Glad she's up and runnin'.  Why do you need to retune the carb?  Didn't you already tune it?

Gary

lol readjust the settings for a final best after the carb is broke in again. you can always tweek a few more RRRRR,s out of them !!! and if she blows ? then time for a newer and bigger jred!!!!

GASoline71

Uh... you don't have to "break in" a carb mang...

You can set it and forget it if you do it right the first time.  Careful tryin' to "Maxx out the R's" you can lean seize the saw.
